Paul Cockerton (ManchesterOnline) - THREE New Order fans from different parts of the world have paid tribute to their heroes by compiling a CD of cover versions – despite never having met each other.
Mike Nguyen from the US, Alejo Parella from Argentina and Canadian Nicolas LeBlanc ran a competition on the website neworderonline.com, where bands could submit their own take on one of the Manchester legends’ tracks.
The site’s users then voted for their favourites and eventually whittled the list down to 16 tracks, which include versions of famous New Order songs like Temptation and Thieves Like Us as well as Joy Division classics Heart And Soul and Transmission.
Nguyen, Parella and LeBlanc have now collaborated online to master the tracks, design the sleeves and iron out legal issues ahead of the release of the CD, entitled Community, on June 1.

“This kind of compilation CD has been attempted before, but not on the same kind of scale and with the same degree of talent and determination – not to mention the incredible effort by so many different from all corners of the world,” said Nguyen.
The album is being unveiled at a special event on May 30 – but don't make your way to New Order's home city, because the launch is taking place in Washington DC.
