In Michael Winterbottom’s largely-improvised Manchester rockumentary, Steve Coogan plays Wilson as an Alan Partridge clone which is very funny if outrageously unfair.
Spanning the disaster-prone era from Joy Division to Happy Mondays via the famous Hacienda nightclub, it recreates the music and the myths starting on the historic night in 1976 when Granada TV presenter Wilson first saw The Sex Pistols and was inspired.
Judging by the contracts in blood, the bizarre feuds with record producer Martin Hannett (Andy Serkis) and Factory’s unique ability to lose 5p on every copy of a New Order 12”, Wilson was the only person to hear Anarchy In The UK and think it was a business plan.
