Rest In Peace
Well, today I had a bad news at work, one of my co-workers died yesterday due to the results of a moto accident he had last monday on his way to work.
You have to understand, I'm a consultant, so I don't work for the place I'm at right now (National Bank of Canada), but I've been here in 2004 and I'm back since March, and the guy worked here both time, but since March when I was back here, he worked just beside me. This picture is a view from my desk and the blue screen you see on the right was his computer.

It's a help desk, hence why they have that stat screen on the top. About 2 hours ago they called a meeting with all the people in the department and announced to us that he had passed away. Must say that was a horrible hour where most people were unable to speak and where I had to force myself not to cry. I'm sensitive, but that's hard to keep inside, and well, I had to shook myself a little there.
Of course, I was expecting this, or either that he would never be able to come back to work, you usually don't get back in shape when you were on a coma, so I had time to think about it.
About 2 years ago, a friend of mine from the university had a major accident while doing some 4 wheels RV in the woods... he got surgery and once he got back from the hospital, in his sleep he started bleeding and almost died, they had to remove a kidney. Of course, I wasn't too affected because when I learned about it, it's when he was ok after, because we're not seeing ourselves that much since I moved back to Montreal, but now he's fine, but he knows how lucky he is to be alive today and cherish all the time he has with his daughter.
The co-worked that just died was 33 years old, didn't have kids yet but was probably in the plans.. and he was not racing, he was simply on his way to work like he was all day for the 6 months I've been here this year.
Needless to say, people will never understand that no matter how fun it might be to drive those kind of vehicules, they are dangerous like no other... you don't have any protection if something happens to you. I had a car accident last July, and I was hit in the back pretty hard, no damage to me, but the car that hit me had some issues.. myself I only had a pain for the rest of the night in my neck due to the backlash.. a simple thing like that could be lethal to any problem on a motorcycle. I have no detail on how it happens, but it will probably be something pretty ordinary.
Man, I'm only 1 year younger that this guy, and I feel I have so much left to do with my life.
Cherish lfe while you can, cherish your kids and your parents, you won't be around always.
RIP Martin Lévesque, 1972-2006.
