[The SKC: Chapter 5--A Closer Joy Unknown!]
Alrighteh, by overwhelming demand from a NOOLer, here's the latest Chapter, fresh from the oven, of my Joy Division fan fiction [which has its own MySpace too--it'll be up sometime, I promise!].
~ A Closer Joy Unknown ~ Chapter 12 ['Didn't Hear The Warning'] ~
'FAC'n hell!! They're everywhere!!' Setsuna growled, sword in hand. She was back in her StarKnight Crucifer uniform, mostly recovered from her injuries in the last battle. Joy Division were already on the scene, ready to take on whichever minion were to stand in their path. Ito glared at the Princess and raised his sword.
'Minions' he summoned, 'ATTACK!!!'
'Oh f*ck...' Bernard muttered. Peter just sighed and shook his head.
'Guys!!' Setsuna called to the band. 'Stay close to me. In fact' she said, thinking fast, 'huddle.'
With a quick nod Ian motioned to the others to huddle around her. 'What's up, Princess?' he asked as he and the band looked to her with concerned eyes.
'Here' she said, summoning from her StarJewel four weapons--a bow with quiver of arrows, a warhammer, a duelist sword, and a long thin string with a sharp-pointed jewel shard on each end--'take a weapon' she urged the guys. 'The weapon you choose will serve you perfectly.'
With a cautious mind, Bernard took up the bow and quiver of arrows, looking at the bow intently. Peter opted for the warhammer, while Ian chose the sword. Stephen held the string, unsure of what to do with it, and looked to Setsuna. 'Eh, Sets' he spoke carefully, 'how do I work this...'
'It'll tell you,' she replied looking back at him, as she was now ahead of the guys, about to fight more minions. She smiled. 'Don't worry.'
Infamous last words he thought to himself with a sigh as he joined the bunch, and the fight began.
'Game on, guys!!' Setsuna shouted as she took on a few minions, her sword Shouriken in hand and a death-glare meant for Ito in her eyes. She was a bit more than ticked off now that Ito had found her, and most likely that Scarr would've found this out by now and sent the General again to destroy her and the band. If anything else kept her going, it consisted of the band, her Team of StarKnights back home, adrenaline, and the hope that all would end well... with the added bonus of something she knew as her StarKnight Crucifer powers.
Bernard took a deep breath, stringing up an arrow on the bow. He aimed the arrow for the heart of one of the minions and, whispering a prayer, let the arrow go. It soared, striking not only THROUGH the intended target but also hitting a few more. He immediately realized that these weapons Setsuna let them use were no ordinary weapons as he looked at the bow and another arrow, which he found to be in his hand.
'My God,' he spoke softly, 'this is insane...' and glared up at the next bunch to tackle down, stringing up the next arrow. 'But, I think I can do this.' With that, he let that arrow go to strike down more minions.
In the meantime Peter was able to dash out the brains of many a minion with the warhammer, stopping only once to wipe some sweat off his brow. He glared at the remaining minions that surrounded him, and glanced at Bernard, who was having fun on his own whims with the bow and arrows.
'Hell,' he said to himself, 'Hooky, if Barney can do this, you can do this. Time to f*ck some minions up. Game on!' With the much-needed moment of a second wind, he set himself back up as a few minions circled him. He swung the hammer and, with the force of what could be one of Bernard's dangerous arrows, dashed the brains out of more minions, causing their demise.
Ian, while not much of a fencer or duelist [or anything of the swordsman sort, for that matter], was able to slash and stab many of the minions surrounding him. While he sustained a small handful of injuries himself [and trust me, so did the rest of the band, as well as Setsuna] and would've passed out into an epileptic fit, he kept going, slaying down minions as best as he could. At one point, in the near midst of exhaustion, he slumped to one knee, his sword helping to keep him up, and looked around at the minions, the band, and the Princess.
'They're strong' he said to himself. 'I'm... I'm not as strong as they are.' He then saw Setsuna glance to him with a worn-out look on her face, a few cuts on her delicate face, yet adorning a brave smile. It made him smile.
Don't worry, Ian she told him using her mind to telepathically communicate with him. Just keep fighting. Keep going. Never stop for fear of weakness.
You can do this. I have faith in you.
That was the second wind he ever-so-desperately needed. With that he nodded. 'Round two, Ian' he told himself as he stood up, wiping sweat and blood off his face. With the sweat and blood off his eyes he took on more minions, slaying them down without a moment to lose.
Stephen meanwhile figured out what to do with the string and shards, as he strung up minions with the string. The string was thin enough that, when he tightened its grip on the bunch of minions, the string cut into its victims, to which he used it to his advantage. With the new idea in mind he grouped them next by the neck, tightened the string, and decapitated them by said method. For the shards at the ends, he flung one string end with the shard, sharp point aimed at the heart of a minion, and its effect took after Bernard's arrows, striking through not one but several by the heart. Stephen, like the rest of the guys, had a few wounds to show for his bravery, and knelt down, recovering the string and taking a moment to actually breathe.
'Damn' he muttered to himself, 'not since the last gig have I been this tired.' He glared around, wincing a bit from a cut near the hairline, above the left eye. As painful as it was, he looked to his bandmates and Setsuna, who were still fighting, but were now exhausted. He took a deep breath, looking to another few cuts on his hands, some on his fingers.
I probably cut myself in the process he reasoned with himself, because of the tightening of the string, and the shards. They got me good. I don't think I'll want to be drumming for a while. With that he glared around at the majority of the minions, which had fallen under their weapons and fearless might. His gaze then fell to Ian, who himself had slumped to the ground in exhaustion. Peter was down on one knee, his eyes fixed to a wound on his right arm. Bernard, also slumped to the ground, was beside a tree for a defense barrier, just in case. The only one standing was Setsuna, who had cuts and bruises-a-plenty, and was out of breath. Her glare was fixed on her next challenge, which was Ito.
'You...' Ito spoke calmly, apparently ticked off beyond words that most if not all of his legion was down for the count by a StarKnight and a band of four mere mortals. 'You and your merry men may have taken down my legion, but you're still nothing.'
'...What?' Setsuna asked, glaring dangerously at her enemy.
'You see, Princess' the demon spoke again, 'you have no power to defeat me, or Scarr, let alone protect your friends, or even heal fast enough.' With that he raised his sword, ready to strike the Princess down.
'This' he grinned maniacally, as his sword glowed and was aimed at her, 'is your last stand, child!!' His maddening laughter sent chills down her spine.
Suddenly...

All eyes fixed on the newcomer, who was armed with a slingshot and a pocket filled with more rocks and stones at her disposal. Setsuna recognized her at once, her own heart racing as the young woman reloaded her slingshot with another stone, slightly larger than the first one, and aimed at Ito.
'Who the hell are you, b*tch?' the demon asked, demanding an answer.
'The Cavalry,' she replied cooly, her answer astonishing the band, Setsuna, and Ito and the remaining minions that were still standing. 'And it's Miss Gillian the B*tch to you, you tw*t.' ~
