Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert Step Back From New Order Live Dates

Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert have stepped back from New Order's live performances due to personal health reasons, the band announced ahead of their Festival Fauna Primavera show in Santiago, Chile this November.

Morris was Joy Division's drummer and remained with the band throughout New Order's existence. Gilbert joined shortly after Ian Curtis's death in 1980 and became central to New Order's shift from post-punk to electronic pop. Together they shaped the blueprint that defined 1980s synth culture and whose influence still resonates through electronic music today.

Bernard Sumner appears to be the sole remaining member from the classic New Order era on the upcoming bill, though the band has yet to confirm the full lineup for the Chile date. Peter Hook, notably, recently commented on the news, calling the situation "quite rich"—a pointed take on a band with one of rock's most complicated histories.
