Ad Infinitum was a one-off 1984 Factory Records studio project founded by Lindsay Reade, featuring Peter Hook of New Order alongside Andy Connell and Martin Moscrop of A Certain Ratio and Eric Random. The group released a single cover of Telstar before disbanding.
Ad Infinitum biography
Ad Infinitum was less a band than a single afternoon's idea. In 1984, Lindsay Reade — then married to Factory Records co-founder Tony Wilson — pulled together a one-off studio group to record a cover of the Tornados' 1962 instrumental "Telstar", recruiting Peter Hook of New Order alongside Andy Connell and Martin Moscrop of labelmates A Certain Ratio, plus Eric Random.
The resulting single was released on Factory Records, with Hook remixing the track himself. The project never reconvened, and Ad Infinitum's entire recorded output amounts to that one Telstar cover — a genuine curiosity even by Factory's freewheeling standards, and one of the more obscure entries on Hook's long list of side collaborations.
