Front 242

I'm under the impression (for some reason) that some people here like Front 242..

Now, I've been listening to their records quite a lot lately, and I really want to get more.. but I can't find any and I don't know what to get.. Could someone give me advice?? (The ones I already have: Backcatalouge, Official Version, Front by Front, Tyranny >For You<, 06:21:03:11 Up Evil).. I know they have a new album out - is it any good?

Or could someone give me advice about *similar* music? Please! :)

their latest album is good. its not classic front 242 but it is way better than "up evil". they are on metropolis records now. www.metropolis-records.com 242 lately has been a part of the newer industrial/dance scene which includes apoptygma berzerk, vnv nation, and assemblage 23. they do remixes for each other etc... a really good cd to have is "headhunter 2000" a double disc featuring remixes by all the new wave of industrial and ebm bands. hope this helps :)

aww! But it's *classic* Front that I want... I listened to the new album briefly in a store, only started listening to it, but it sounded like some trance-like stuff.. maybe I should give it a chance tho...

i noticed you are from sweden, isnt synth-pop and ebm huge there? i could have sworn i read apoptyga berzerk won best band award in swedan somewhere. btw, there is a new 242 side project called male or female (i think thats whats it called) i have not heard them yet, if you do, let me know what you think :) thanks :)

Front by Front is their best IMHO. Then get Back Catelog followed by the maxisingle Mixed by Fear.

I had the privilege of seeing them live twice.

never saw them :(

sinece i never saw em live, i have two live cds that rock. livecode (yellow cd and cover) and re:boot (not as good as livecode but still pretty good)

I think you're thinking of "SAMA" - Scandinavian Alternative Music Awards.. (I think it used to be called SEMA, Swedish Electronic Music Awards) Apoptygma Berzerk won best artist there this year... I guess ebm/synth is pretty big, but it's definitely not big enough to be "mainstream"...

sounds cool! I heard they are good live... I'm pretty sure my brother has seen them live.. at some music festival.. ´he used to have all their records on vinyl, but someone broke into his place and stole them (!) I'd be devastated if someone took all my New Order vinyls!! :(

Maria...I only have two discs that you don't mention...EvIL Off...which was released around the time of Fuck Up Evil...and a demo disc that was for use at a record shop that I used to frenquent...has some tracks from the very beginning all the way through Mixed By Fear...

I saw them live in a theatre in Chicago. Cannot recall the name of the place. I also saw them outdoors during Lapalozuuzuzuzuzuzuzaaa inwhich their tape machine or sequencor broke down. Good sound indoors but not too much to see since their music is all electronic.

The "Live Target" CD is also a good one, although sound quality is a little off on some tracks. Good version of "Don't Crash" on it, and it's got the full DSMO 1/2/3/Moldavia thing, with extra lyrics.

A lot of people hate it, but I like EVIL: OFF a lot. Though I wouldn't be able to discern an actual story from it, it *feels* like a concept album. The main thing that I love about it though is that its sounds so sonically innovative. I've had that album for ages and I never tire of listening to it.
