Well not quite my next door neighbour - but my local paper tells me that Shaun Ryder's brother Paul (Happy Mondays bass) has moved to rural Hertfordshire. Paul is recording new material with local musicians for release on the Internet. Paul says his wild days with the Mondays are behind him - he is now a family man and loves the Hertfordshire countryside. A photo is included with the article which shows Paul sitting by the riverside with his fishing rod. How times have changed !
Curiously Paul tells the paper that the Hertfordshire music scene is really hot - like Manchester in the 80s he reckons (only slightly more sedate). Can't say I've noticed much going on locally - mind you I did have an opportunity to see the Syd Lawrence Orchestra a few weeks back with my wife's elderly parents. Oh and Victoria Beckham and Kim Wilde live locally. Something tells me he is having a laugh !
After living with Shaun Ryder's new album for the last month or so I am warming to it. Not quite as good as the 1st Black Grape album (even if that was a Serge Gainsbourg rip off) - but this new stuff is very much worth checking out. Who knows maybe Paul will surprise with his new stuff too.
