"I Love the 80s"

Anyone seen the newest retro show on VH1?

If so, is New Order even mentioned? Because they might've contributed something to the music of the 80s...

...or if not according to the executives.

No, I haven't seen NO mentioned in any of the parts of the episodes I've caught in brief, but I did see Tony Wilson laughing it up with Kiss in the I Love The 70's series (76, I think).

in the original I love the 80's they barely talked about Depeche Mode, so I highly doubt they will mention New Order on the new installments in the series

On one episode of the older I Love the 80's, they featured DM, The Cure, Erasure, The Smiths, etc. as some sort of "it's okay to be gay" thing. I think I stopped watching after that.

i heard the cure's "boy's dont cry" was one of the break-up songs in 1980 according to that vh1 show. but "boy's dont cry" didnt register in the US until "standing on a beach" was released six years later. as far as new order goes, no mentions as far as i know, but you would think that blue monday or blt should be menioned as they were 2 of the biggest new wave songs of the 80's.

oh man depeche mode just shouldnt be mentioned here

in the first version of i love the 80's during 1988 i think they did a " new Wave" segment that lasted about a minute and a Half, it was all pretty much morrisey and DM, and all the idots they interview talking about how goth and depressed they were or something stupid like that. if blue monday wasnt in the 1983 episode im sure you wont find them anywhere

I never expected MTV/VH1 to mention New Order anyway. I mean, we're talking about the TV channels that rarely even play music, let alone quality music.

That's something I've always heard associated with the Smiths and the Cure. With the Smiths, I think it's Mozza's "flambouyant" stage presence and lyrical content (which doesn't necessarily means he or anyone in the band is gay, but it does lead some to wonder). I don't think there's a "specifically gay" audience for the Smiths or Mozza solo. And if he IS gay, to quote Seinfeld "Not that there's anything wrong with that"...

As for the Cure, I think it's basically Robert's fondness for makeup.

I'm pretty sure Robert's straight, I think he was big into glam rock so that might explain it (though now he looks like everybody's overweight aunt). I don't know for sure, maybe his wife does :D

I've never been one to knock the "acting black" white kids entirely: some of them are actually willing to get beyond the superfical world of rap to the blues, Harlem, and countless other hallmarks of African-American culture. Most, however, are content to turn their baseball caps around and act like they're from the slums, and those are the ones that I wonder why no one kicks their asses. White culture is basically dull anyway, why wouldn't anyone prefer to be black?

Oh well, back to the white-kids-acting-gay: Instead of hip-hop, radio stations will be forced into "All Liberace, All the Time" formats, while Morrissey and Ian McKellen will do Tommy Hilfiger ads, with Elton John on TRL. Embrace the gay......:D

no, I meant black as a fashion accessory, not referring to race - like walking down any of my local "hang-out streets" on a Saturday morning and every kerbside cafe group having brekkie has to have at least one flamboyant gay guy at the table to be cool

I used to do that when I was 16 - dressing up like Robert Smith to go to school - but I highly doubt it's going to become something "in." When I went to high school, pretty much all of the white kids (since my high school was barely half white) pretended to "act" like they were from North philadelphia - probably a lot like East Compton - but since all of them used to make fun of my make-up, attire, and music, I seriously doubt they'll put down their Ludicris CDs for and Smiths or Pet Shop Boys tapes anytime soon, but I wouldn't know, since I've been out of high school for over a year.

I think Robert Smith was quoted once as having owned a Lada (one of Q's "Q and A" sections, where readers send in questions to the artist featured). Other than that, I know nothing
