favourite japan albums?

i'd put my money on 'gentlemen take polaroids,' for the first two tracks alone.

I'm not a particular fan of japan, but Asia really appeals to me

Yup like Japan's stuff, right from the earlier stuff on Obscure Alternatives to Tin Drum.

Saw them live a few times and they were always excellent.

have you listened to sylvian's 'secrets of the beehive' album? from 1987 but sounds suprisingly timeless--and is just good!

Love the Brilliant Trees solo LP by Sylvian, but the only Japan album I have is the live one, Oil On Canvas.

Ryuichi's soundtrack to Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence, from which the Forbidden Colors song came from, is also great, though Dave only sings on the one song.

Great stuff, i've always thought the bass lines and drum patterns have always been underrated.

By the way, Japan were the only "new romantic" band, their followers (duran duran, abc, spandau ballet, etc) were just pale imatations.

agreed, karn's basslines were the backbone of the music. and each line was really "busy" but somehow matched the song. good stuff.

Isn't Mick Karn David Sylvian's twin brother?
