Too chicken-shit, it was all I could do to get through Aliens and Alien 3. I am just too wimpy for the first one

I saw Aliens in the theatre with my GF. It was really loud which added to the tension. As soon as they landed on the planet I knew they were fucked. I felt extremely uncomfortable after the show, even locked my car doors as I drove to a party. After 6 beers and a few bowls i felt relaxed.
I have watched it a few times since but it never had that tension, intensity that it had when I saw it the first time.
maybe, if I am really high, I'll see it.
twist
Even tho I've seen it several times on telly I've never seen it on the big screen (since the original release was 20 years ago!) so I'm really looking forward to it. Of course Ridley Scott is brilliant and I'm also an HR Giger fan, the architectural design of that alien ship was just absolutely beautiful... :D
oh man - you have to go see it on the big screen
the true surround sound, the darkness, the size, the atmosphere - everything will make it far far better than watching it at home.
cant wait to see it there personally
Yeah, I´m watching it this weekend and really looking forward to it. They say the new edition is darker and gorier, yuck!
I am an eager Scott (Ridley, of course) fan, my favourite films being 1 Blade Runner 2 Alien 3 The Duellists.
Talking of which, has anyone heard from our favourite Portuguese contributor? Where are you Jorge?

We exchanged some e-mails about my cover for the Community tribute this week. Jorge told me he has been very busy at work lately.
I love all the Alien films (except Alien 3) and would love to see it, but because i live in Australia we won't see it for ages, any details about the exra bits, I'd love to know.
The director's cut has a digitally remastered soundtrack and the original negatives have been digitally restored and enhanced. It includes a previously deleted scene known as 'the nest' (where ripley finds out what happened to some of the missing crew) I do expect the film to appear a little dated but in comparison to later sci fi thriller efforts it was way way way ahead of it's time!

Agreed. When i first saw it i had nightmares about it for ages, they dissapated until i saw Aliens and the nightmares stated all over again, terrifying stuff.
Aliens (with an "S") was much easier to watch, but not by much. It was more of an "action-adventure" mixed with the horror. Alien (without the "S") is a bit much for my tender tummy, I'm afraid. I'm not looking for any new sources of nightmares anytime soon.
Alien 3 was always one that I liked, though nowhere near as much as Aliens. Alien:Ressurection I caught parts of on TV, it seemed to be "gory for gore's sake" so I doubt I'll ever wanna catch that anytime soon. I'm just a big wuss ![]()

Yes it pretty much was, even with all the hi-tech weaponry and scanners, those poor marines didn't stand a chance against the alien's guerrilla warfare. Hey a later release of Aliens contained a very cool scene of two robotic sentry gunners holding off a swarm of aliens from a strategic section of the fort, major bugwash! ![]()

Was that the "Aliens" director's cut? The scene you mentioned was excellent, actually nearly all the added footage was good. Ripley finding out about her daughter, Hudson enlightening Ripley about the firepower on the dropship & how his team of "ultimate badasses" would protect her, etc.
An "Alien" director's cut definitely appeals!
wasnt aliens a special edition rather than a directors cut? not available on vhs on widescreen either (bizarrely)
the deleted scene(s) on alien are all on the dvd aren't they? is there anything new?
regardless every film fan should check this out on the big screen.
I saw Aliens for the first time last night - if you haven't seen it, I advise you to watch it with at least one friend (I had two with me at the time) and with some sort of light (e.g. candles, like we did) because it's a bit scary. Not sure if I'll go to see the new one.
Wasn't released in upstate NY yet ![]()

Have to wait for this little pocket of cultural isolation to open up I guess...

I'm here, thanks for asking! Loadsawork right now, so I haven't contributed as much as I wanted, but I still give NOOL the obligatory daily peek (Thanks to Ricardo for pointing this thread to me!) As for Alien (one of my faves too!) I haven't heard anything yet regarding a portuguese cinematic release, but I'm eagerly anticipating the DVD box-set!

Impeccable taste - all 3 are in my top 10. I remember seeing Alien in 1979 when I was 11 and it scared the shit out of me - I was hiding behind the seat a lot of the time. Haven't seen it on the big screen since then, so will definitely be going next week when it opens.
