lending people your cd....

and it comes back all scratched! i dunno if i'm being anal or picky, but when i lend people something, i want it back the way it was! not full of nicks and scratches. thank god this is a cd, not vinyl or a tape where sound quality is an issue...otherwise....

don't get me started when the linear notes are wrinkled with water stains....

i believe in sharing music with people and sharing bands, but please have some respect! or else i'm just giving them a cd-rw copy of the cd. which i think i will be doing from now on.

DON'T DO IT ...and never give the booklet with the CDNext time your mates come round for a CD,switch off the lights and hide in the kitchen.:D

I know what you mean, this is one of my pet hates too. I don't think it's too much to ask for someone to take care of something that's been borrowed. I recently got a CD back after about 14 months (a whole other story!), the disc itself was ok, the cover was a bit grubby, but the booklet insert was wrecked. I'm thinking of putting a sticker on all my CD covers saying "Return in the condition you got it as a hefty slap often offends." Either that or I'll tell people to piss off & buy it themselves.

Usually I don't have this problem, as I have no friends

But of the times when I have lent someone a CD, it's usually come back more or less the way I gave it to them. Once or twice I've lent something to my cousin that came back with some cuts or scratches on the CD container, but none have come back scratched any worse than they already were.

What I hate is buying a CD, brand-spanking new, only to get it home and find it's f-ed up in some way or form

My 27 years in this world have taught me this:

NEVER LEND YOUR CDs YOUR VINYLs AND YOUR BOOKs!!!!!

They either get messed up or end up "lost"...

i'd say for the most part, that my cd cases always come back cracked. then i need to replace the case of the cd with another from a crappier cd.

I do the exact same thing; it's the only reason to keep "OU812", "BeeGees Greatest Hits", and "Ethel Merman Does Disco!" :D

I lent my cousin my copy of "Mike Nelson's Movie Megacheese" about a year ago, I have yet to get it back (I guess I could just buy another copy, it's available at a lot of bookstores)

Absolutely. I don't lend things anymore, because I never get them back.

And if you do lend something, yes, absolutely, it should come back in the same condition in which you lent it. Even if the other person has to buy a new copy to replace the old one.

cracked cd cases i'm not so upset about cuz they're easy and cheap to replace. except when it's a special looking case (like the sparkle-y pink cd case of my copy of lisa loeb's first record. guilty pleasure. :D) linear notes and cds...well that's friggin expensive to replace! btw, it was my copy of interpol's turn on the bright lights. awesome record...now scratched.

thank goodness i didn't lend him the cd case that came with it.

my friend phoss borrowed my mode "music for the masses", cure "show" and one more I cant remember, went to his house for a party a month later, and he was using my damn cds to rest is soda on. orange crush on all the cds... never again did i let him borrow. still lend and borrow cds, im bad at giving them back in a timely fashion but i take better care of them than i do my own. the only cd i lost was the soundtrack to the "little mermaid". didnt tell my girlfriend yet :) damn i loved that cd :)

i generally use the cases for my old primus cds. there is one band i can't justify liking anymore..

Guess Im pretty luck on this one...my friends are just as picky about their CDs and books....so they usually come back in better condition then when I lent them out.....but my records NEVER leave the cedar chest they are "preserved" in

good thing none of my friends want to listen to anything i listen to... but i get really bent outta shape when my cds end up in the little lady's car for 5 months and she says "oh yeah, i can't remember which case i put that in..."

it's practically grounds to call off the wedding.

A buddy of mind lost my Salvation Soundtrack CD. Can kick myself in the ass for lending it out.

Never had this problem, since I'm the only person in upstate NY who likes New Order/Depeche Mode/Interpol, etc.

I treat my CDs like my newborn

'Cept for the fact that I don't have one yet!
