The Postal Service

Did anyone else here has been been listening to their album or hear about them? They are SO GOOD! I heard the track called "the District Sleeps Alone Tonight" while I was on the plane back from NYC to Amsterdam and could not believe my ears. They play some kind of melancoholic electro pop and in that way close to N.O in my opinion. It's really worth a listen. No kidding. I know there is a MP3 of "the District Sleeps Alone Tonight" on the Sub Pop website http://www.subpop.com/scripts/main/bands\_page.php?id=412 It is REALLY worth a listen. And please tell me what you thought about it. :)

I haven't listened to anything on Sub Pop since 1994. :p

Well, time to be a little bit nostalgic! ;)

Despite the postal strike in the UK I've been listening to a copy of this album for the last few months. Excellent stuff in my opinion.

The Sub Pop site seems to be a little slow tonight, I'll try again tomorrw, they sound interesting indeed.

Sub Pop has put some good records too since 94, Mark Lanegan's solo albums, which don's sound much like the Screaming Trees, plus Jeremey Enigk's album, which I think is better than the Sunny Day Real Estate albums.

The Postal Service album is very good. The John Tejada mix of Such Great Heights is amazing and the tune that started it all DNTEL - (This is the Dream of) Evan and Chan (superpitcher kompakt remix) still sounds as exciting as it did 8 months ago.

More Human League than New Order though.

This album is great. Been listening for a few weeks and was pleasantly surprised.

I got the Postal Service record back in the spring and still find myself listening to it fairly regularly in the fall, which is a fine indicator of long-lasting freshness.

Now as to those who hear from "reliable sources" that it's "trendy indie-rock shite," I have this to say - pop it in, swipe a few MP3s, and give it a whirl. It's not indie rock in the slightest, outside of the occasional emo-ish lyric, and the production is just sparkling good synthpop stuff. Fits right in between Pet Shop Boys and Belle and Sebastian.

I agree!!! . Even though I am not such a big Pet Shop Boys fan. I think it sounds a bit like the Notwist too but in a more pop way.

You fellers ever heard the band Xiu Xiu? Give THEM a listen. Now there's some odd "indie rock" music. There'll coming to town in January and I'll be there with one of my trusty Joy Division shirts on...shouting until they play their cover of 'Ceremony' (though they also have a song called 'Ian Curtis Wishlist').
