He uesed to host Gambit and How ( with Jack and Bunty ), and he even used to do World of Sport, when Dickie Davies was on Holiday.
He sure was multi talented.

I remember Gambit - it had those packs of giant playing cards years before Bruce Forsyth appropriated them for Play Your Cards Right. Wasn't it one of the four progammes made by Anglia TV with their Airfix model 'bloke on a horse painted silver' logo? There was Gambit, Tales of the Unexpected, Sale of the Century and Survival...when you heard the 'dah dah dee dah dah di di dah dee daaaaah' music and saw the slowly revolving model you always knew it would be one of those four...

Not really! The Airfix model just kind of made an impression on me in my younger days! It was one of Victor Lewis-Smith's theories that the more tin pot the ITV company was, the more elaborate they made their logo - so Channel TV, which only served a bunch of millionaires in the Channel Islands and to the best of my knowledge didn't make any programmes that got shown by the rest of the ITV network, had an even bigger Airfix model than Anglia...it was a schooner, I think!

The 'Uckfield Thumper' one looks particularly good, tho' it's more than twice the price of his signed photo...but then again you can't put a price on quality!
He's been around, has old Fred - he collaborated on a book with the Kray Twins called 'Our Story'...maybe the original idea for Gambit came from Ronnie & Reggie!

I just had a quick surf to get me away from the football this afternoon - totally hacked off at seeing the Addicks trailing 2-0 to Southampton at half time I decided to do something else instead. Whilst collating all that Fred related info, I then managed to miss two goal of the month/season candidates from Ooooh Scotty Parker but managed to catch Southampton's winning goal...doh! But I'll bet that neither of Ooooh Scotty's goals get on ITV's Wanky Premiership goal of the month shortlist 'cos he doesn't play for the Arse or ManUre or Chelski or the Scousers...
The Fred Boogie caught me a bit by surprise 'cos it took ages for the music to start by which time I'd turned the volume control up to about 75%!
On the subject of former TV presenters from the 70's (or so) does anyone know what happened to Roy North after he split with Basil Brush and Get It Together finished? There was a man who oozed star quality!
On Get it together did Roy sing songs made famous by others?
If its the show I am thinking of it is the most embarrasing piece of TV ever. I used to cringe.

Yup, that's the one! As well as other people's songs, Mr. Roy sang the 'Get It Together' theme tune. He used to bear a passing resemblance to the singer from Showaddywaddy and unfortunately was about as good at singing... It was indeed worthy of a cringe or three. I guess Mr. Roy needed the showbiz know how of the mighty Basil Brush to allow his talent to shine through!
It's kind of embarrassing to admit, but I watched Basil Brush on TV last night - he was a guest on Rolf Harris' Albert Hall concert.
No need to feel embarassed...thanks to recent unemployment I can (and do!) watch the new Basil Brush show on BBC1 on Friday afternoons. Not as good as those from my youth tho'...football results on Grandstand, Basil Brush Show, Doctor Who - that's proper Saturday early evening television and no crappy Ian Wright gameshows in sight!
Too right! Saturday television is shamelessly crap these days.
Still, Doctor Who will be back in 2005...
I'm afraid Fred is a bit of a twat these days - he was OK as the radical young whippersnapper on 'How?' but Jack Hargreaves was the master.
I remember being fascinated by his rural programme 'Out Of Town' (Southern TV) which I am sure was one of the inspirations behind The Fast Show's Bob Fleming sketch. (and while I think of it - anyone remember 'Hey Look, That's Me!' on BBC South?!).
I too was delighted to watch the genius that is Rolf Harris on Saturday ('You gotta Rolf with it...' was hilarious!) and regressed back to being 8 years old when Basil Brush was on!
Saturday nights on BBC1 were fantastic - as well as the one's you've already mentioned the golden era also had Jim'll Fix It, The Dukes Of Hazard, Wonder Woman, Nancy Drew & The Hardy Boys, The Generation Game ('shut that door'!), Juliet Bravo, Bergerac, The Two Ronnies, Morecambe & Wise, and if I was good I could stay up and watch Match Of The Day!
As for the Dr Who comeback, apparently The Human League have been approached to rework the theme tune and there is a campaign on a fansite to get Phil Oakey installed as the new doctor - now, THAT would be brilliant (two ready made female assistants there as well...!!!).
BTW - I have a spare ticket for them at Brighton Dome on Friday 19 December as Old Blue has let me down - any takers...?!

'Out of Town' used to be on Sunday afternoons just before 'The Big Match' in the LWT area. It always seemed to consist of old Jack sitting on a stool by the river fishing for half an hour - and (i assume) he used to get paid for it! That's the sort of job that I could handle...
Who gets the vote for favourite Basil Brush straight man? Although the genius that is Roy North is up amongst the leaders, my vote has to go to Mr. Derek (Fowlds)...tho' he's come along way down in the world these days, being forced to serve behind the bar in 'Hearbeat'...
In the Southern region 'Out Of Town' was on at 6.30pm after the local news programme.
As well as fishing, Jack was nearly always sitting in his shed, smoking his pipe and talking in great detal about his traditional woodwork tools. However, other excursions often saw him going to local country blacksmiths where he would shoe horses.
Then he would ride off down the lane on his horse-drawn carriage - compulsive viewing...!!!
