The novel that took HST 40 years to write is being made into a film. Anyone ever read this?

Ah, I thought now I'd know all about PIP's life...:(

I thought about getting it, but as with all things I "think about" nothing has come to pass as far as actually reading it  (I did get the Great Shark Hunt, which I highly recommend :thumb: )

The Great Shark Hunt. The Rum Diary is a novel based on his time in Puerto Rico. Fast read like Fear&Loathing.

I've read it. Thought it was so-so. Defintely not one of his better ones...probably why he never wrote much fiction. I've read almost all of his books, except Hell's Angels and the two volumes of letters. What'd you think of his newest one? I thought it started off quite badly, but got better as it progressed. He's obviously lost most of his earlier talent to years of drug use, but there's still a few glimmers.

I have not read his latest or Better than Sex.
Fear&Loathing his best.

Skimming through The Proud Highway, much of it dull.

Hell's Angels is among his best work.

The Curse of Lono is hilarious, much like Vegas and Steadman is with him.

Songs of The Doomed highly recommended as it is a collection of his best work plus the sex trial he was in, better than the Shark Hunt.

The Great Shark Hunt a thick collection of his journalism, some great stuff but alot to be skipped.

Campaign Trail--too dark, long, pointless but random pages reveal some gems such as his test drive of the Vincent Black Shadow.

Generation of Swine so so.

I am interested on how they present the gang rape in the Rum Diary.

I always thought the actual article "The Great Shark Hunt" from Playboy would've made a hilarious short movie along the lines of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The antics in the airport are classic, and having to woof down a whole kitbag of drugs midflight before they get checked by customs is classic! I wonder if Colonel Depp will be portraying the good Doctor in the Rum Diary flick.
