the observer had a review of the cure gig in lahndahn last week by kittie empire who went on toclaim any nunmber of bands inspired by fat bob & the boys

interpol was the 1st one she mentioned & although she cited other influences for some other bands she didn't even mention jd.

lazy journalism, blinkered fans view or relevant point?

Lazy journalism. Interpol sounds nothing like the Cure, well aside from their first album.

Been listening to that Interpol gig in Denver in September and remember when I saw them a week earlier in LA. When I saw them I thought "needs some maturity." My friend was like "Sounds like Major Tom." Now I think they sound like Bauhaus. So goddamn 80's you could steal the Delorean, fly back in time and play the disc and nobody would be the wiser. Even Wifey was like "one chord band, eh?" Sounds nothing like the Cure. Bass player has less talent than Simon or whoever thje Cure uses/used.

Do not get me wrong, I like them but I have yet to hear anything groundbreaking from them. I hear alot of bands in their music but not The Cure.

I must also disagree. Just because The Cure is being cited of late as an influence on every other currently hip band out there, Interpol gets the nod as well.

Joy Division vocals over Chameleons (UK) guitar: compare "Leif Erikson" (my favourite song from last year) with "View From A Hill" on The Chameleons "Script of the Bridge" LP and you'll see what I mean.

I never thought The Cure once while listening to them.
