Big news in SC (don't know if you all have heard)

Strom Thurmond, "Mr. Dixiecrat", who holds the record for the longest filibuster with his stand against the Civil Rights bill of 1956......fathered a child with his black maid :D

Yep, seems ole Strom has something in common with Tommy Jefferson: sleeping with the help. I personally don't care one way or the other (he supposedly "reformed" his views when he got older, but who really knows?), but it's been getting major play here in SC where he is an idol. I can only imagine how many Klan members are drinking themselves silly over one of the icons of the "Southern rights" frame of mind doing the nasty with a black woman and getting a child out of it. The lady, now in her seventies, said that she had a good relationship with Thurmond, so I think the guy had a heart after all. Nonetheless, it's more fun to think of him as a racist bastard (it really pisses off the local folk who loved his sorry ass).

Anyway, I've seen it mentioned on CNN, so I figured maybe somebody here had an idea what I'm talking about
