Is it remotely possible that someone does NOT like The Smiths?

I know this is a New Order site and all, and I know I'm probably being TOO naïve, but is it possible AT ALL that someone on this very planet of ours does NOT like The Smiths? And why would that be so? Really, I'm curious...

it´s possible.

not me, but it is possible. i´m aware some people has a bad opinion of Moz. i don´t like everything, though. some songs are really good, some don´t. but the good ones are REALLY good so...

I can only stand a few Smiths songs, but I mostly like them for the guitar. As for the singing, that Morrissey's a whiney little bitch. He moans and groans like a little shite. Then again, I'm a huge Cure fan, so draw your own conclusions. Musically, the Cure beat the Smiths any day of the fookin' week, and that's what I really care about.

I don't like The Smiths. I like some of the guitar riffs, and even one or two lyrics, but Morrissey is a c**t and I would chin him as soon as talk to him.

Not a huge fan of the Smiths either, though I do own a few singles of theirs. Notorious record "producer" Steve Albini (Big Black, Rapeman, etc) hates the band, and wrote one of the most memorable reviews I've ever seen of a record. He compared Morrissey's vocals on the first album to that of a narcissistic twat bathing himself, singing whatever lyrics that his muse brought to his mind, and thinking only of himself. Steve concluded his review with the line: I'd like to be there to hand him a clock radio

I do own Rank as my only Smiths album. Pretty good.

I'm a big Smiths fan myself, they're the first Manchester band I ever got into (here comes the stoning...oow!), but as with everything there is a distinct possibility that not everyone will be charmed by Mozza and company.

Now, if no one here was able to express an admiration for Lionel Richie, that would be strange...

:D just looking for an excuse to use this pic more than once

I like a few of the singles, but most of their songs start sounding the same after a while. If I hear them in a club, I'll dance, but only because the DJ pretty much plays their decent songs, like "How soon is now", "This charming man," and "Big mouth strikes again." The Moz doesn't get on my nerves and his voice isn't bad, but I'd take Neil Tennant's falsetto over his any day.

the Smiths have their place in my collection....whenever you really need a bit of a cry, nothing beats Moz's whinning....but Im with the Pope in saying that the Cure is much better.

Well, I like both The Cure and The Smiths. AND Moz's singing. The Smiths wouldn't be The Smiths without the Moz.

If it wasn't for The Smiths i would never have made it through the 80's.

Always thought The Smiths were shite, and I am proud to say I own nothing by them and have never seen em.

Ok, I'll rest my case.:nonono: Although I do like The Smiths immensily, I have to admit Mozza's a first class dickhead. (And I'm not about to stick flowers up MY bum in adoration!) But, really, he is so funny!:love2: Anyway, I love The Cure and the Pet Sop Boys as well, and I really like Lionel Richie, as weird as this might sound... Fanx for answering the age old question that wouldn't leave me be!:thumb:

Lionel Richie !

Alway's thought it would be class, if in the video for HELLO, when the blind girl has finished the plastercine bust that looked like King Kong, Lionel would say's "who the F***k's that meant to be "

Suprised no-one ever did a comedy sketch along those lines

Perhaps Michael Jackson employs her to design his new heads

Never seen that video. Mostly, I can't tell whether it's Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, KC & The Sunshine Band, Al Green or Lionel Richie singing stuff - they pretty much sound the same to me - is there a difference? Maybe this should be my new thread idea...

Still on The Smiths, you might want to check out my really cool picture on my profile (though hardly up to scratch compared to Mike G's avatars:love2: ).

You know what? I prefer Moz solo after 87 than the Smiths. Suedehead, Everyday is like Sunday, The last of the famous international playboys are more amusing songs than any from the Smith era. Anyway, they're not ones of may favorites.

I like Mozza's solo career, but never since the winter of 1987 has he come up with the likes of "Nowhere fast", "Paint a vulgar picture" or "Vicar in a tutu" - the latter, really, is just superb!

I seem to remember an episode of "Pop Up Video" that featured that video, the pop-up at the point of the bust unveiling said that the crew thought it looked nothing like Lionel. I have to concur...

i never liked the smiths. morrisey's whine always irritated the shit out of me. if it had been another singer, maybe...who knows? i hear the songs now and love johnny's guitars, but morrisey's voice ruins everything and i hate him for that.
