Didn't even know he was still around, definitely don't see his records over here. Think he only ever had one record released here, an EP on Stiff America, which had his mad take on Green Green Grass Of Home plus some songs of his. Also remember him from his appearance on the Young Ones, that was interesting
Fuck it, now I'm gonna have to play that record again :)
Seen him with Wild Willy Barrat , 'kin years ago now, good night out though. Seen him on his own a few years ago, cant remember if it was the Band on wall. Like characters that go their own way, dont always like the direction, but its good someone experiments. Liked Billy Mackenzie and Roy Harper for same reason. Would appreciate a 'recomended' list Mike, dip me toe in so to speak. ' give it head butts '
Thank you sir, which one of 'em ( wild willy/otway ) wrote his autobiog, had it printed and distributed in a big wooden box type of thing ? Or am I gettin Julian Cope mixed into this ?
saw ottway a the fleece a few years back. nutter!
cope published his modern antiquarian in a slip case, but it wasn't wooden. the 2 volumes of the autobiography are just regular books afair (withthe exception of the 2nd one coming with the first one stuck on the back of it upside down)

Billy Mackenzie was a fcuking genius! What wasted talent....Not only had I heard that Alan Rankine helped launch Belle & Sebastian
, but that he was writing songs for that forgettable dogwank boyband that called themselves 911 or something...![]()

Recently re-read the Mackenzie biog, well recommend it as for Rankine, past glories outway present sins, fella prob'ly got bills like the rest of us .
Best illustration of Billys humour to be found in biog, his last taxi on the record companys tab ...
