As a newbie , Who is David Sultan, and is it just me, or are people justly/unjustly hateful of him? WIM got a fac number?

Also, he has some story about hooky being in a new band, and won't say any more? does anyone know if its true, or have any more information

David Sultan runs World in Motion, another New Order website. He's a nice guy, but has rather alienated quite a few people in the New Order community by buying everything. It's not jealousy that he can afford stuff, it is the way he seems to believe that he can just wave a pile of notes under people's noses and they will jump to whatever he wants.

I've got no problem with David at all, the nickname is just that, a nickname. Quite a funny one too if you ask me. Some people here resent certain episodes of plagiarism and inappropriate behaviour that can be attributed to him though. He is currently being courted by the former leader of the Recife Battalion of the Joy Division, who has been ostracised from these parts, his sins being two thirds of the second album.

I say, don't even bother debating it. As far as I'm concerned he's a top bloke - he likes New Order and has bothered to get off his ass and demonstrate it, by setting up a website. And a bloody good one too! I know him from the days of Paradise. Let's all settle down a bit.

Well, bullies are everywhere... I've met him a couple of times, and he is a nice guy - very passionate about New Order.

Yes, his site was assigned a FAC#. No matter what site deserved the assignment the most, I think it's a nice nod to the fans, by Wilson...

He has very good contacts with the band. If he can't say anything at the moment, it's because he can't say anything.

i think he gets unfairly bashed around here. i absolutely believe it's jealousy that fuels the fires when his name/site gets mentioned. we'd all be better off if he were friendly with the webmasters here because then we'd have a kick ass site (thanks!!) and a contact with the band. imagine the possibilities. world in motion is terrible as a website when compared to the incredible weath of information and entertainment this place contains but he always seems to get the scoop when it pertains to actual New Order business. i'd love to look through his collection.

as for the niagra site...it's been a frequent stop of mine for years and years. even before i found this place. i have read through the entire live section with inbetween song banter etc...who else has? spent hours and hours reading that stuff. awesome contribution to the newOrder internet community.

Well, I had no problem with Mr Sultan until one day he changed the design of his website, and by coincidence, the display looked a lot similar to NewOrderOnline's one...

As a matter of fact, I opened the source and saw my own comments in the code, so I saw I've been ripped off. Having a co-webmaster studying to be a lawyer, let's say things turned pretty ugly...

I did burry the hatchet a few years ago, but well, there is a natural rivalry between both sites.. it's obvious he has better sources that I do, I never bothered trying to contact the band's management myself, and I don't mind it at all...

In a perfect world, there would be only one New Order website, but well, there is two! (two complete, there are specialized sites such as the wonderful New Order Discography website of course ;) )

I've got nothing against David at all, and I still post over on WIM when there's something of interest. David was kind enough to explain a few things when I first started posting 3 or 4 years back.

I'm permanently skint - so I haven't got the money to bid for anything. I can understand people's frustrations though. Hopefully on the next tour I'll get the chance for David to buy me a beer:D

So the guy does have a lot of money but as i NEVER have had to bid on E-BAY for any of my collection he has never done me any harm. Also remember that there are some of us who have BRILLIANT contacts and can get the odd OLD record or CD(PROMOS too) at very little cost.Trouble is last time i did a favour for a CD i NEVER received the money and the guy who "RIPPED ME OFF" was rather flipant in his attitude towards me.I am over this now and if you are a genuine fan and fellow NOOL'er i am always willing to help you get an ORIGINAL item.Just send me an e-mail and i will have a look around for you.You know that not all items are sold on E-BAY and if i have a SPARE or can get something you want(excluding BLUE MONDAT 7 inch ;) ) then drop me a line.If not i could always send you a SHIT copy of SHUGZV's CD-R if it EXISTS. DOUBTS EVEN HERE. BTW His site is good but i prefer this one simply because of YOU!:D ROCKET MICK

Rather ironic that one site has the band contacts, and the other site has the band's fans.

Well, you know, I believe the success of NewOrderOnline were the forums, they have shown up on WIM about 6 months later. I don't know why it didn't work, I can't say.. maybe it's because we have several moderators and were 2 webmasters constantly posting (though any old timers know I wasn't posting a lot at the beginning)...

Plus I built the site on suggestions from everybody, not on a P Diddy website

But anyways, World In Motion is not a bad website, to be honest, when we did the "big merge" I was going to ask David Sultan to join us, but that never happened due to frictions between Jonathan Scott and Sebastien...

Old stories.. To be honest, I'm expecting the band management to eventually contact me for help, not the contrary, and we've been blackmarked a few times, so that's probably why it never worked...

Anyways, as I said, it would be nice to have all ressources at the same place, but that will probably never happen... but competition is always good ;)

I agree with you completely. I think the forums are what make this site the best website for a band I have ever seen, and the forums are what bring all the JD/NO fans here. You guys have done a brilliant job, and accepting input from the Community keeps it brilliant! :thumb:

Sometimes I think he's using his site just to be able to see and buy what people are offering for sale on his site and then buy it himself. However, it is quite a good site (not nearly as good as this), and if I could I would probably do the same.

Hmmm. Since i don't know anything about the guy, and hes a bit of a NO head, ill refrain from any opinionating

I was surprised WIM got a fac number. Its not great from a web design standpoint, and isnt as comprehensive or good as cerysmatic factroy from a general factory perspective, or as fan tastic as this site:thumb:

He does have the best news on it tho.

Hope everyone can get along better in NO world;)

I like the way DS has done the Discographies. A Very impressive New Order collection, but with some notable omissions.:smoking:

Not only does David have a Fac number but last time I saw him he also had recordings of Pottsy, Arthur Baker and Saville going, "Welcome to World in Motion blah blah blah!" Presumably he's got the band on tape now too, considering his appearance at Saville's Manc so last week.

He gets a tough time here, but like Nic and Seb, he's providing a service, I guess. I know some of us here have perhaps followed New Order longer than the afore-mentioned and with a touch more fanaticism but I, for one, would never entertain creating such a forum, so it's good that someone can get off their arse to do so.

Totally agree. On NOOL it's the forums which make the website and which bring me back each day, and that everyone really feels like they own a small piece of the action here. I can't put my finger on it, but the WIM forums are sterile, through no fault of David's I'm sure, but that's the way it is.

Long live the NOOL forums :thumb:

I wouldn't be surprised if he did, I am also expecting him to have some Saville design someday... it's probably willing to pay for it (fortunatly not as expensive as "the table" )

And personnaly I wouldn't mind.. NOOL is my business card, I'm basically forming myself on this site and put it on my resume, and it's always impressive that I managed to do a website that attracks so many people with *ZERO* publicity

Ok, I will. I'm not jealous of his collection. I've never been one for wanting every available version of every record, I've got all the ones I want. I've also got about 500 more live recordings than him ! The only thing of his I'd want would be living in Miami, but I could do that if I really wanted anyway.

I met David in a bar in Paris after the gig in 2001. He seemed like a nice guy. I, however, was pissed.

Sorry David :bag:

Why would anyone want to live in weather that resembles a sweaty armpit? The best areas in the country are Santa Barbara and northern San Diego (including the towns just north as well Del Mar, Solana Beach). Also if you are not 21 yet, Tijuana is nearby for the leisurely teenage drunkard

It's nearer to my spiritual home, the Caribbean. That's the only reason I would want to live there.

Well, I have lived in Florida... sorry, lovely Agent, but that place sucks. Especially if you come from Rio.

David seems to be a complete wacko, but he was very kind to me the time was getting nuts looking for the fuckin' limited Retro... which I finally bought with the tips I got from THIS forum.:D

If I were him, I would spend my money with chicks and drinks... which I already do, but not so much as I would if I have his cash.:smoking:

*In a perfect world there would be as many New Order sites as possible. While doing Movement, the New Order links list on my poor personal site, I really enjoyed browsing sites of all kinds dedicated to New Order and related bands, and I think everyone can do their thing without any competition. All we would need is an official site, a true one, with updated news, and then some good fan sites like this or World In Motion. Also I like how many people expressed their passion doing their own thing, no matter if with the latest Flash technique or through a visual HTML wizard... Actually I miss more sites, time ago we had some like True Faith which were very good, and it was nice browsing them all. In a perfect world, on the other hand, there would be only one place for discussion. At the moment it seems it happening de facto with this forum, so it's alright. But there where times when I had to

  • check the Ceremony digest
  • check the alt.music.new-order newsgroup
  • check the WIM forum
  • check this forum
  • And there'd be other places like the Brotherhood Yahoo! Group, the Joy Division Central forum etc. You know, it really did take time. And what about having to post the same message four times, knowing that some people are on more than one place and will probably get tired of reading it more than once? I think that, while doing all your own sites, you should find a common ground for a forum with a neutral moderator, preferably one that allows you to have E Mail messages as well, so we can keep the most important without having to save them to a text file. Why don't you all do a meeting, Warren, Nicholas and David, and decide what to do, to create the place where all New Order fans can meet? I've always respected you all and admired what you've done. While competition about sites is OK, I really think there should be only one forum.

LOL, that is my yahoo group that i created back in 98! Sorry, i was surprised anyone mentions it anymore. It actually was pretty active back when i first started it, but quickly died down after i banned a member. I think i pissed everyone off. These days it's full of posts from pornographers.

After a couple years of neglect, i finally had to go and resurrect it because the member kept complaining about the porno mail that originated from the group. :(

*Well, this happens because other people, unlike you, bother to go there and check the news to report :p But I wasn't strictly thinking about news, I was thinking about debate as well, mere discussion posts aren't certainly reported and can be interesting, though this forum is really active and fun. :thumb:

*Yahoo! Groups have always been my favourite way of forum on the Internet. They're like a mailing list but they've got also a web space for chat, files area, message post and archive etc. Yes, there's all the spam, but recently Yahoo! has adopted some measures: when you register you have to write a word you can only see from an image, that prevents the bots that were infesting the groups with their automated subscritpions. If that's not enough, you can set the preference that allows only subscriptions approved by the moderator, so when one of the bastards try to get in you don't approve (they're usually recognizable by nicks like cl1tl1ck3r or something  ). The only thing you miss are the smart graphics and the smilies, and the flexibility to organize it on multiple topics, like here I really like how there's a New Order forum, the off topic forum, the polls forum...
