latest ebay spoof email

If anyone else has got the following email today purporting to be from "CustomerSupport@eBay.com", just delete it. I have had a confirmation from people at the real ebay that this is bogus. Just thought you should know.

"Dear eBay member

We recently noticed one or more attempts to log in to your eBay account from a foreign IP address and we have reasons to belive that your account was hijacked by a third party without your authorization.

If you recently accessed your account while traveling,the unusual log in attempts may have been initiated by you. However,if you are the rightfull holder of the account, click on the link below, fill the form and then submit as we try to verify your identity.

The log in attempt was made from: IP address: 205.188.209.166 ISP host: cache-dq04.proxy.aol.com

If you choose to ignore our request,you leave us no choise but to temporaly suspend your account.

We ask that you allow at least 72 hours for the case to be investigated and we strongly recommend not to make any changes to your account in that time.

I got a couple of those this weekend as well...

but they didn't look that good...spelling was horrid...looked like my 3 year old nephew had typed it up!!!

I just ran an antivirus for the first time in ages and I found out I have 45 different infected files; at least now I know some of the e-mails I got stating I had mydoom were actually right :(

It's not a very plausible spoof, that one, is it? It just doesn't ring true that ebay would be so concerned about the security of your account that they would bother checking for 'foreign' ip addresses logging into it.

My image of ebay is that they don't care a fig who logs in or what they do as long as ebay makes some dosh out of it. Perhaps I'm too cynical.
