Read the book Flyboys. It covers the Pacific war between Japna and the US and goes into great detail about cannibalism. Two types. One is to instill a "fighting spirit" by eating the flesh of their enemy. Usually the liver was sufficient for this. Officiers would amke this a requirement for their underlings as a test of their courage, especially after having them behead a prisoner.
The other was for survival. Often the Imperial Forces were given two months worth of provisions and told to "find what you can" after they ran out. One soldier commented about this. Not only did he rape her, he had 60 troops to feed. He brought back her flesh and said that it was "special provisions" and after they barbaqued her (his term)noted that some said it tasted "good."
