i gasped when i heard that duran duran was picking up this award at the brits, and appaled at their performance on the night. to think that the likes of new order could be over looked in favour of these flumps is beyond me? but come to think of it WHAT awards have the won around the globe?. i know they got a best vid award for true faith but what since? imo its a travesty if thats all they have ever won, does anyone know any different?.

Best group to play CHORLEY TATTON COMMUNITY CENTRE.I awarded them this but they could not be available in THE BLOB SHOP to pick up the award! :D
Considering how many singles Duran*2 had, that made no.1 and the fact they've not gigged in 20-odd years but have just sold out five (is it?) gigs at Wembley Arena plus many more arenas ... when their staple audience is not teenager wannabes who gig every other weekend but 30/40-somethings who've got better things to do with their nights off, and don't trawl the NME every week for nights out.
What the fcuk have New Order done to challenge that?
Duran Duran are a great band and fully deserve the recognition. The only reason New Order don't get the same applause is because of the whole independant tag that has followed them around their whole career. I was surprised to see them get the video award from the Brits in '87.
They did get a lifetime achievement award from Q magazine in 2001 (I think was the year). DM the following year.

Q Inspiration Award in 1999. New Order getting an award is something soooooo rare that I'm even able to remember it.
Well, sorry folks, but Duran Duran (just like Depeche Mode) is a much bigger name on our side of the pound.
Although Duran Duran did nothing since The Wedding Album... and I thought they were back!
And there is still a rumour of collaboration!
the brits is pretty much just for record companies to make more money isn't it as well as being embarrassing to watch. the reason new order never won any was because Factory didn't belong to the BFI or whatever you need to belong to. the one year tony remembered to join they won for True Faith. yeah duran duran have done very little to change music but they did good pop & videos for a while & made a lot of money for a lot of people & hey they're still around let's give em an award. saying the award validates them was embarrassing, it would be awful if New Order won something like that. to me NO will probably only be fully appreciated by the masses in 10-20years time, but then maybe not... any group that can join the dots from the velvet underground, bowie & stooges to pop & indie music that we know today via kraftwerk, morricone, neil young, the PSBs, football rap and gay disco is a fairly good lifetime achievement in itself without an award really.

*Did you watch The Brits? DD were a fuckin disgrace, they sounded shite & when they did Wild Boys they expected the crowd to go mad (looked like they went for a piss or to the bar)*

Nope, didn't watch the Brits. I don't actually like Duran Duran but can appreciate the fact that for every New Order fan worldwide, there's almost certainly 30 Duran Duran fans. Yes, I think they're sh1te, but in musical terms they're bigger than New Order could ever be. Doesn't mean to say they're 'better' but these were Industry Awards, yes, so they're giving a pat on the back to one of their biggest earners. An employee of the month award, if you like.

another one overlooked imo.
as for new order though i still think they of all bands around at the moment are long overdue a pat on the back,i mean lets face it you cant judge artistic acheivment by record sales or selling out wembley a bazilion nights in a row.
new order/joy division have been the insparation for many a band and or club hit,and not just musically either just take the artwork ect that they have used and the ethos behind factory ect,the production duties they have performed for other bands for next to nowt, the solo projects that have been fruitfull it just goes on n on really.
but as for rocket micks suggestion as for best band to play at chorley tatton comunity centre, the only reason they didnt turn up at the wine lodge to collect it is cos they was at the royal oak (upstairs) where they had rehearsed earlier that day,i should know i was there i have the tape![]()
