In reponse to a ridiculous claim on another thread.

Should the Stone Roses reform?

The Stone Roses are one of my favourite bands. Their first album is unquestionably a classic album, and one of my all time favourites. Do i want them to reform? NO.

When the Stone Roses split up in 1996, they were a joke. The final reading festival headline appearance was an embarrasment. The second album can only be described as the "john squire experience" with Ian Brown singing (although there are some good tunes on it).

The Stone Roses are synonymous with the madchester era. Late 80's early 90's drug culture, the fusion of dance and rock. That era has now gone, to see king monkey and Squire on stage, along with Mani and Reni would be a joke. there is far too much bad blood for it to ever work again.

Each member of the Roses has their own career now. Mani is Primal Scream, Ian and John as solo artists Reni as whatever he is doing now.

So theres my theory. The Roses shouldnt reform. Anyone else got any opinions?

I would probably go along to see them.IAN is a far singer these days ,i always thought he struggled to speak let alone sing in the late 80's.They would have to be supporting NEW ORDER though1

I've always wanted to hear/see that horrendous 1996 gig just to see how bad it was.

The Stone Roses' debut album soundtracked my summer of '89 (it was permanently in my Ford Fiesta's tape player - with Pixies' "Doolittle" on the other side!).

Undoubtably a classic - but as far as I'm concerned that's the era Brown & Co belonged to...!!!

PS - I always remember turning down a last minute offer of a ticket for Ally Pally because I was already going to see The Wonder Stuff on the same night.

Fools Gold 9.53 is a classic with indie heads & clubbers,but i think they`ve gained too much status based on one album-no matter how good it is. A reunion would only prove this,anything less than a straight run through of THAT album then finishing with Fools Gold would be seen as disappointing.

Every man has his price. Well, except maybe Paul Weller (but, who knows - the Jam rumours are also always circulating).

For the record though, I'm not fussed either way as to whether the Roses should/shouldn't reform. I think it would be interesting to see, though I probably wouldn't attend.

I just cant see them re forming. the carrot has been dangled before and the only one who seems up for it is Mani. Your right though, every band has a price.

Time (& money!!) seem to heal many wounds, witness Brett Anderson / Bernard Butler and the fact that the House Of Love are recording together again (with Terry Bickers)..

I don't think that a Stone Roses reunion would be the best thing, but would have to go & see them though if they did!!
