It seems Janet's "Boobiegate" incident at the Super Bowl has inspired a barrelful of hypocritical unrest in our nation's capital. All kinds of people are starting to come under fire for being "indecent" and what not (which is such an insult, considering that what constitutes "obscenity" depends on where you live, what you identify with, and so on), and the latest to come under fire: Howard Stern ![]()
Personally, I've never been the biggest Stern fan (I did enjoy the movie Private Parts, but otherwise I never cared much for the radio show as broadcast nightly on E! network), but the fact that he's being attacked now is simply a result of the uproar over Ms. Jackson's utterly stupid and unnecessary stunt. The guy's been peddling in smut for twenty years and now, all of a sudden, he's in the crosshairs of the FCC.
Conservatives are making this whole situation out to be something that shows the "degeneration of America" and using it as an excuse to go after stuff they deem "offensive". Like I said, obscenity is a very loose category into which just about anything can fit if you ask around enough. If Howard were to be yanked from the air because of this (and NOT because he lost any ratings or audience or wasn't making any money for his radio station), then who would be next? I suppose, as someone who has come to the belief that freedom of speech makes us unique in the world and thus needs to be preserved at all costs, that this is terribly pressing. The minute the government gets involved in what you can or cannot see, hear, read, whatever, who's to say they stop at just the obvious stuff?
So I guess what I'd like to do is to send this to Ms. Jackson, who I'm sure reads this board all the time (and is probably "Rocket Mick" in disguise :p ). Ms. Jackson, please don't get nasty on TV again. The world would be a much better place if your sagging, mutilated (remember, I'm not a fan of weird piercings) boob had come flying out of the costume almost an entire month ago. I know you haven't sold a record since 1997, but believe me, the world didn't need another aging pop diva trying to recapture the attention of the youth market by engaging in a planned and unnecessary display of how "sexy" you still are.
Ms. Jackson, keep it in your bra next time, okay ![]()
:D
