Of all the films nominated, I pick LOTR...if only because that's the only film I've seen that's nominated

no, but i do have a fever...

i'm mad at the oscars because they didnt nominate 'party monster' for best costumes or best film...

I'll be watching the Oscars tonight, but I don't expect anything too entertaining or anything too suprising; LOTR will be a big winner, and Charlize Theron will win for best actress.

...and Janet Jackson will flash her boob again, ensuring that everyone forgets about her freak brother on trial :D

Best Supporting Actor: Those wacky kids in Eurotrip

Best Supporting Actress: Dame Judi Dench (she was in a film this year, surely. Maybe as one of the biker chicks in 2Fast2Furious)

Best Director: Stanley Kubrick (it's about time, people! )

Best Picture: From Justin to Kelly

I predict a perfect score at the office Oscar party this year :D

There is an "Oscar Party" at the movie theatre I work at tonight. All I know is that we've actually had to do a good deal of detailing and cleaning (something rare in that place), and yesterday there was an ass load of flowers. People kept asking if they were for a funeral

So it may be cool tonight, or a load of wank. Either way, should be interesting

Sean Penn deserves Best Actor for Mystic River,but hes too outspoken too get it. Mystic River deserves Best Film too.

Yes, the film wasn't bad. The costumes were fairly good and it was fairly amusing (and I was not on anything), although not exactly a contender for best picture.

I'm in the middle of watching and the only thing that is keeping me from chaning the channel is Billy Crystal; he has done a great job at hosting so far. And as predicted, LOTR has gobbled up everything so far.

LOTR got 11 oscars; is it just me, or is LOTR glaringly not deserving to be tied with Ben Hur and Titanic as the most oscar award winning film in history.

Have yet to see LOTR or Titanic. Vaguely remember Ben Hur. Probably will never see Titanic.

looking at the films that won I discovered why I did not go to the threatre last year--too fucking depressing or boring.

Lost in Translation--total bore, I never finished it, I even like The Razor's Edge but this film was pointless.

I tried to convince my kids to buy the LOTR dvd set with their Christmas money but they saw right through that. Maybe if there is nothing else to rent and I have 10 hours to kill....

My dvd player has Adaptation and Secondhand Lions. Both great flicks from the previous year.

Best actor should have been Gollum / Smeagol, that pale little monster in LOTR (which is not such a masterpiece anyway, it's the average fantasy pagan epic, just well directed), I find him one of the best designed charachters ever, the way he moves his eys and mouth is so expressive, amazing really... These pictures give only an idea of what we saw on the screen.

I thought Steve Martin did great the two or three times he's hosted, but Crystal was a welcome return and kept the tremendously unfunny Whoopi from hosting.

I was rooting for Bill Murray to win, not so much for his performance in LIT (which I still haven't seen, due to the video store's one copy always being gone) but because of the criminal oversight of his not getting it for Rushmore. But Sean Penn and Tim Robbins were fun to watch in light of the five-second delay (you just know the right-wing muthafuckas were hoping those two would pull a Michael Moore, but they didn't), and I'm glad LOTR pulled a hat trick and got all 11 (pardon me for saying so, but Titanic didn't deserve a single Oscar, and Ben-Hur maybe for Chuck "Damn Dirty Apes" Heston but that's about it)

i was just amazed that sean penn showed up. was this the first time he'd been at the oscars?

*Yeah, that's about the same thing I was meaning, only I don't think it's a masterpiece as a whole... not all the actors are that good (the one playing Frodo for example), and most of all the story itself is a bit tired... seeing the film, or reading the book, it's just like listening to those prog rock concept triple albums... I was sad that Bill Murray didn't win, because I just love him. I've not seen even ONE of the LOTR movies. They look as boring as hell... actually, I TRIED and lost interest with the first one. Is that weird of me?? I liked Lost in Translation, for Bill Murray especially... but I couldn't rate it against the other movies, as I don't watch many, and couldn't pit it against the others for that reason.

Looked to me that ol' Bill was a bit disappointed that he didn't win, but I guess that Sean Penn was terrific in his move (sorry, I didn't see it).

Kind of a boring show, I didn't watch the whole thing, but there was an interesting moment before the show, when Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson were talking to the female ABC correspondent (sorry, don't remember her name), and Owen asked her if her breasts were real. She was taken aback, and ABC went to a commercial very shortly afterward. With the five second delay, I guess that's about as much controversy as we could expect.

The correspondent was some nice piece of ass they brought in for "Entertainment Tonight" to counter Mary Hart's slide into plastic-surgery malfunctions (at least I hope that's plastic-surgery to blame, God help her if it's natural), and I must say she's not bad for the ole eyesight

But they are probably fake (just like everything else on ET)

I always wonder (considering that Owen is always writing great films with Wes Anderson) if he does some of the movies he does simply to get money for the good stuff. That's what I'd like to think was behind his being in "The Haunting" anyways

I still think Belleville shoulda got best animation and definitely best song, watching the audience reaction on Oscar night convinced me not many academy voters had seen it, the just looked like people hearing something for the first time

Well I cant disagree, I aint seen the Barbarian Invasions yet, but will be doing, quite like Quebec though I've spent more time in Montreal ( 78/79 , 3 visits ) used to use a pub called the Irish Lancer, dont know if it's still there and a dodgy nightclub called Shed 20 or Shed 25, near the docks. Hope to visit the Comedy festival next year ,with Mrs garymac and then have a week or so in Quebec.
