You should expect to find ATR front right of stage with his DAT in his hand. But if he's any sense, he won't be in a ManYoo shirt this week. :D
Did you ask this on alt.music.kraftwerk last week, as someone else posed a similar question there?
KW audiences are fairly sedate. Bit of jigging on the spot, but that's yer lot. No mosh-pit, obviously. They're starting slowly on this tour and don't pick it up for a good half-hour. The encores should [ahem] "rock the fookin' house" though.
Oh, and they're not doing Endless Endless.
PS. Oh, and I expect the visuals should be fairly spectacular as they're being sponsored - I believe - by Sony on this tour.
The robots should pop out for one encore too.

Alex 'The Red' Staszko.
He's got his name on Retro for [ahem] 'helping' with some of the tracks. Sound lad, known by a lot of people here and abused a couple of times by Hooky from the stage (MEN Arena is probably the defining moment of that). Used to take a rubber skeleton called [again, ahem] 'Ian' along to New Order gigs.
He's doing all the KW British Isle dates.
Just keep an eye out for sideburns.

Bank? I assume you meant 'band'? Well, Hooky certainly knows him. Made a comment about condoms for Xmas at the MEN, just called him a 'c***' straight out in Stockholm after he turned up in a Viking helmet.

I thought Hooky asked him if he'd got a new tape recorder and some blank tapes at the MEN ? That's what it sounds like to me. Far more feasible than condoms as well, knowing Alex !
I recommend you stand in the back drinking a white wine spritzer and rubbing your chin saying, "Hmm...I think he missed a note there." Always popular.

And pervy glasses. He is a good bloke Alex. You'll have a good time.

Haven't got a copy, just going from memory. I thought he asked him about condoms, then a tape recorder and blank tapes?
Just got a text off the lad. Already in Glasgee having flown in from Dublin. The boy gets aboot.
Conor, what did you think of the show?
Thats easy, send a dummy in to stand motionless all night while you watch from the side. thats the Kraftwerk way.:D
Best concert ever!

I arrived in town for 7.00 – doors 7.30 - meet the lad cogavin from college, and his mates, head in and get right up front. Outside is a 40-foot scania truck. Not the kind of equipment “the Australian pink floyd experience” or your average Olympia band would use! ![]()
Get chatting to some fans. All look a bit like Steve or barney. Slightly old (no offence anyone here) and be-pot bellied. One Brazilian lad tells me all about the cross overs going on in Brazilian electronic music. Not many ladies – no hold on – NO ladies!
Oh oh – it’s “bono” and “the edge” (worst stage names EVER). Sitting pretty (or not) in one of the boxes – ah well – we’ll leave off the poor buggers for just this post. 1 word really – contrast!
Get to see retro Alex 'The Red' Staszko– and my those glasses are retro. Retro in a way that does NOONE justice. Seems like a nice guy, but I didn’t introduce myself (“hey , is that a dat in your pocket or are you just glad to see kraftwerk”
) – I had a yellow “technique” T on, and was going to say something, but after a 45 minute wait, with no girlies, and yet not a macho atmosphere, or a gay atmosphere, or no atmosphere at all, but not no atmosphere (that was an homage to Paul Morley and his silly writing), the intro “vocoders” comes up. Hurray! :)
left – right onstage are : Hütter, Schmitz, Hilpert and Schneider in dark grey/black suits with red shirts and black ties -like the cover to man machine, only slightly updated. they look sharp. Schneider has his head shaved, and looks fit. Ralf has a “kylie” type earpiece / speaker on. The stage has 3 projectors playing some fantastic video onto the stage behind. Their desk is even equiped with a space to fit a 500ml water bottle (if they weren’t genius, you’d call them twats).
I've taken some of this off another webpage – as a memory aid to the setlist:
start : The Man-Machine (animated graphics like back sleeve of the original album) so so ,the crowd don’t jump – I noticed – anyhow, its technically proficient. me and the Brazilian wave out hands about
Expo 2000 (graphics from video, similar as showed at Australian mini-tour) – not so hot on this one – not their strongest work, but he video is a real headfuck.
Tour de France 2003 (footage from video, audio similar to Long Distance mix, including Chrono) – fantastic, the fans love it, and sounds surprisingly good live, bit of jumping action.
Vitamin (graphics with animated vitamin pills) why they include this and leave out “Europe endless” AH JAYSUS!
Tour de France (old Tour de France footage) real good, the footage is really interesting and appropriate.
Autobahn (record sleeves, footage of traffic and old car advertisements) wow- simply amazing, and the crowd get into it, lots of clapping along and cheering.
The Model (footage from the traditional video) this was particularly good, Ralf enjoyed it. the footage was classic. The keyboards had a slight “church organ” effect – great, worked really well.
Neon Lights (footage of neon lights) not my favourite. The footage was a bit shite too (they should have brought out their neon lights)
Sellafield (text on screen) got a big cheer being in Ireland – “Sellafield creates as much radioactivity as Chernobyl every 4.5 years.” Fuck me.
Radioactivity (radio-activity signs, audio with slow introduction) this was the best, me and the Brazilian went nuts, I went nuts , it was fucking amazing, sooooo good. Jumping around clenching my fist, ah yeah. the graphics for this (with the atoms colliding to beats) was the best !
Trans Europe Express (old trains footage) could it get better after “radioactivity” – it just fucking did. That train is art.
Curtains close – me - “MORE MORE MORE” – the guy behind me “the girl in the cloakroom said its on till 10.30” yeeeeeeesssssss!
curtains open, now Hütter, Schmitz, Hilpert and Schneider ties are fitted with little red lights (LEDs like "The Robots" original video)
Numbers/Computer World (graphics of numbers/lyrics) graphics were shit, but that lyric “Interpol and Deutsche Bank, FBI and Scotland Yard” was nuts , so good, Ralf moves and seems to openly smile !!!!!!!!! Moves his hand like it’s dancing and the rest of his body isn’t. they all look gay – not camp, espy Ralf. looks like a “dandy” or a “dapper”. A straight gay obsessive man – epically when he moves like this. The crows notice him doing the smiley hand dance and cheer, hoping he’ll break out into a funky dance – but he is a long way off that.
It's More Fun to Compute/Homecomputer (old computer graphics) great stuff, bouncy.
Pocket Calculator (animated pocket calculator, Ralf has mic problems) Ralf is moving again – another highlight of the night “By pressing down a special key, it plays a little melody” he is smiling again, me and 2 others are “pogoing” as you’d say – I look around and we are the ONLY ones jumping. Jesus! I look at Staszko and his side of the stage, and noone is jumping COME ONNNNNNNN !
Curtains close – the robots haven’t appeared – The robots must appear.
curtains open
The Robots appear ("THE MIX" robots style alone on stage, behind the consoles, no clothes, screen shows footage of the robots video) do do do do – do do do do.
curtains close
curtains open
Hütter, Schmitz, Hilpert and Schneider were dressing the "new" green light-emitting wired frame suits. they look pervier than Staszko’s glasses/sideburn combo.
Elektro Kardiogramm (oscillators graphics) again – this gets in – Europe Endless doesn’t !
Aero Dynamik (bicycle graphics, audio similar to EMA MTV) – real good graphic. makes you want to ride the tour and fill yourseld up with e.p.o. everyone seems to know this, and it gets a good reaction
Musique Non Stop (footage from the traditional video) amazing, but you know it’s the end!
band leaves one at a time, starting with Schneider on the right, Hilpert and Schmitz in the sequence, leaving Hütter on the left to last. they all bow politely. Florian ran off! I guess its tough to get a whiz out in those costumes. Ralf (as always) seems to be enjoying himself the most. in a slightly high pitched (or was that a vocodor) german accent “good night – see you soon”.
Everyone else was heading to the electric city, but I was far to hungry and tired. headed home, and got to thinking about why they are doing it. they seem to get nothing (particularly Florian) out of it. I was disappointed to see they had “sony vaio” laptops – not for any leftist reasons I personally may have, but just cause it hammers home that technically they are no longer avant-garde. it also kind of ruins the purism of the event.
Such amazing songs though. What can I say? bar NewOrder – they are the only band I’d travel overseas for !
Enjoy your UK tour dates – lucky duckies ![]()
