I finally got my hands on a copy of Lost In Translation last night at the video store. Pretty good film (now I know why everybody's got hard-ons for Scarlett Johansson, she looks gorgeous in this. Bill's not bad-looking either :D ). I'll probably add this to my DVD collection soon

I was gonna go Friday night when it came out (though I already went and saw "The Dreamers" that afternoon, speaking of hard-ons), but my roomie's tires were flat. I'll probably go see it today. Kaufman is a genius...the greatest screenwriter of his generation. Everything he's done is wonderful!

I'd like to see that film, but after I see "The Return," a Russian film that came out in Boston a few weeks ago. It sounds fairly interesting, from the reviews I've read, and I don't mind reading subtitles.

Definitely one movie I want to check out, despite the fact that I am not a Jim Carrey fan at all, only movie of his I've like is Man On The Moon. The rest of his work...............

i hate hollywoood and big budget hollywood movies that insist on using the same handfull of stars in every movie. i refuse to see movies with Jim Carrey, Tom Cruise or any of the other same names that pop up every year. i'd rather spend my $10 on a CD or 12" that i will have for the rest of my life and not pad the pockets of obnoxiously rich hollywood actors.

true indeed. ive not gotten anything out of a blockbuster since i went to ghost busters at the age of 8.

i still go. mainly cause none of my mates are remotely intrested in remotely interesting films. friday after class, 4 of your mates are going to the latest stiller/wilson vehicle with pints afterward - do you say no cause you know the film will be shite?

usually its sunday afternoons on my lonesome or with the occasional freind / sister that wants to go to dublins only arthouse outlet.

Pretty much feel the same way you do, but once in awhile there's something that intrigues me, and this is one that does (let me also say that I go to see maybe 2 movies a year, tops). Years of working in a movie theater burned me out quite awhile ago, and it was also hard to take a lot of the big budget Hollywood stuff seriously after living next door to an independent theater in Salem for 5 years. Watching Devil In The Flesh with a bunch of housewives was a lot more interesting than some Jim Carrey snoozefest "comedy" with a bunch of irritating teenagers.

You have to be joking! This isn't the usual Jim Carrey movie. It's Charlie freakin' Kaufman writing it, so you know it's gonna be good. Anyway, I saw it the other day and I'm sure it'll be one of the best movies of the year. Great stuff, very original. NOT your typical Hollywood movie by any means. I'm surprised you would even blackball it so arbitrarily after the genius of such films as Being John Malkovich and Adaptation.

yeah, the writer and director make this movie a RENTAL option. i do like Being John Malkovich and Adaptation and this Eternal Sunshine sounds good but why the FUCK do they have to use Jim Carrey? TO FILL SEATS. Thats why and it's total bullshit. i hate the movie industry. Overcharging for tickets and then having the balls to play COMMERCIALS before the film starts. WHAT THE FUCK? If they are selling commercials then the ticket prices should go DOWN. But no, they continue to increase and the Concession stand has been out of the question for more than a decade with my income. The entire experience is a waste of money and i always leave the theater wishing i had done something else with my $10 or $20 bucks.

movies are for people with no imagination. i'd rather watch the clouds float past with some killer tunes on my headphones while rubbing together two ten dollar bills.

Funny you say that because Meryl Streep is the reason i refused to see this at the theater. Nicolas Cage is not on my HATE list yet although i don't look for his name in movies. He's done some decent stuff and some real trash but he doesn't appear to be sucking the hollywood cock like Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey (and many more).

But she has no major part in the movie though, it's mostly Nicolas Cage and Nicolas Cage :D

And of course Chris Cooper. I still wonder how they manage to get Meryl Streep, this is so untypical for her to do this kind of role!

Nevertheless, this was a very original movie, and the more you think about it later, the more you find amazing stuff... not the type of movie you watch for entertainment though...

i've seen it on DVD and i agree it was a great movie that provided a lot of good conversation afterward. The ending was completely lame but everything leading up to that was very good.

Just wanted to mention that Charlie Kaufman was on "Charlie Rose" last night talking about "Eternal" and so on (and his brother Donald was nowhere in attendence :D )

I gotta say, "Being John M." and "Adaptation" are two of the best movies I've ever seen, so whether or not I catch it in theater (and it's likely that I won't; the local theater doesn't have it listed as playing there :( ), I will definitely try and get my hands on it when it's on DVD
