Dawn of the Dead

A bit too 28 Days Later for my taste. Sarah Polley is a total hottie though, there's some nice humor touches, some suspense near the end, but that's about it.

Thoughs?

A decent zombie movie. It could've been more like the original, which had some very funny bits also. Tom Savini's cameo as the sheriff was quite funny. The ending of the remake was a bit silly and could've been more like a part in the original where one of the guys is surrounded and about to kill himself but then he just says "fuck it" and starts popping zombies. Also, everyone who has seen Lucio Fulci's zombie films knows that zombies can swim (and fight with sharks on a coral reef over who gets to attack a naked female skindiver--trust me, it's a great scene), so sailing away to a private island will not stop the inevitable. My biggest complaint was that they didn't play up the satirical, anti-materialistic angle of Romero's original screenplay enough. Anywho, decent but not too scary...more of an action movie than anything else.

Us brits are about 6 months behind you when it comes to movies,is this the film version of Dreamcasts "House Of The Dead" or a 70`s remake?

This is a remake of George Romero's "Dawn of The Dead"-- a 1979 film, I think, and the second in his trilogy. Can't wait to see it!

Evil Dead rules! I mean, it's still ridiculous as every horror movie... is there anyone over 12 who can really be scared by that stuff? The Day After, that's what scared the shit out of me, because nuclear holocaust could actually happen, while zombies and other nice chaps are no more real than the Smurfs... But Evil Dead has some rare quality, Raimi was at his cheap debut but made really his best and actually its lack of expensive features it's just what made that movie great. It looks like what The Blair Witch Project should have been, only it's truly lo-fi horror, even if it keeps some sense of humour, but not that much to ruin everything, like happens with Freddie Kruger. I'm not really a horror fan, but just go to Creepy Clips and choose Video Clips / All Clips and then under Evil Dead "First Possession" and "Fighting Against Demons", that's great stuff (though of course you just wonder why demons aren't strong enough to break a simple chain ), you see they're all making a great effort through a lo-fi attitude and that sets a spooky atmosphere, while the 99% of horror movies are just plain ridiculous with all their special effects, shiny colours, half arsed actors and stupid humour (or worse, trying too hard to explain why people should be scared justifying stories without any credibility). Evil Dead rules because it's a great raw indie horror. Shame about Evil Dead 2, though, how embarassing... he sold out to everything bad the first chapter wasn't

Evil Dead?

How can you say Evil Dead 2 is a sell-out? If you know anything about how Raimi does business, he's a colossal dork who emulates the Three Stooges and just happened to make a horror-comedy in tribute to them. I like the 2nd one possibly more than the first, because let's face it, if you're not a little kid (as I was when introduced to it), the first one is not gonna scare you, so why not just have fun with it. I also recommend the following similar horror-comedy films: Dead Alive (best zombie movie EVER), The Reanimator, Piranha, Friday the 13th Part 3 (unintentionally funny, but a real campy riot), et al.

Evil Dead 2 just looks like a kids movie, it's like watching Back To The Future or Indiana Jones... when I see the first I see something special. It's not scary, but it's special, it's actually beautiful to see in some kind of sick way, the photography, the colours, the cheap make up and dummies, the actors, the music, the house and the surroundings... it's a rare little gem. Evil Dead 2 is a horror movie, but not as it's meant to be, it's horror because you see how stupid that same director has become. Even the "monsters", I mean, they're meant to be more sophisticated than those on the first, but they look way more ridiculous actually (stuff like Labirinth and The Neverending Story comes to mind, I don't think that's flattering)... or just look at the bridge scene... isn't it so better how they find it went down in the night of the first than the uselessly pompous scene in the second? The house itself, looks more like your granny's quiet house, and then like a circus, while the first is more austere... the actors are absolute crap... the story itself is as idiot as a porn pretending to have a plot...
