For those of you out there who have heard of Mark Eitzel/American Music Club, how come they're not the greatest band ever, rubbing shoulders with Joy Division/New Order?

They are not considered a great band since no one knows who the hell they are, can you provide a link to some of their material?
I own THE SAN FRANCISCO COLLECTION singles in the BOXSET.At least the first three CD singles.Not a bad group but i was more taken with owning the BOX.A rather novel idea at the time.This box would hold several singles and the album.But i got bored with them and stopped collecting in about 1994.

"San Francisco" is probably my fave, together with "Mercury". Tis a question of taste awright, but to get bored with them? I find them so unique, so compelling by all accounts, a quality that stands out in Joy Division/New Order too, I'd say. But I'm still glad to hear you don't absolutely dislike them, Rocket!
they're a good band, always enjoyed their material...just never really got into them (or mark eitzel).
