Ladies and gentlemen, Winn-Dixie's bakery in West Union, South Carolina, has a little item just in time for Easter: Hot Cross Rolls :nonono:

What these are is basically your standard bread roll (with some fruity tastes to it, I'm led to understand) with a "cross" made of white icing on top.

Yes, it's that tasteless

I first noticed these a few days back, but tonight me and a co-worker were trying to come up with slogans to tie the "hot cross rolls" to Mel Gibson's latest film...here's a couple of my best:

"Now that you've seen the film, enjoy 'The Passion of the Christ' rolls!"

"Remember the resurrection, with some delicious cross rolls!"

"Magical, magnificent, as it was...yes, these rolls are the same as the ones served at the Last Supper."

"There is no better way to mark the death of Christ...than with these hot cross rolls!"

"Mel Gibson spent millions over years to make his labor of love. These labors of love are on sale, and they're great right out of the microwave (allow thirty seconds for cooling)"

:p

You Southerners can't even get a simple name right! :nonono::thumb: They are Hot Cross Buns, not rolls. Hot Cross Buns are somewhat common, especially during Lent.

I remember this song as a kid:

Hot Cross Buns! Hot Cross Buns! One a penny, Two a penny, Hot Cross Buns! If you have no daughters, Pray give them to your sons! One a penny, Two a penny, Hot Cross Buns!

Bastards!!! :D

I've just spent an extra 2 hours at work, 2 nights each last week baking them fooking things. Thankfully hot cross buns only appear at Easter. Oh yeah, and on Ash Wednesday aswell.

Duckman, I've not heard that rhyme in years! Nice one. Mind you, with what my boss charges, one a penny??? One for €0.65 more like!

That is all.

This is the first I've seen of them at our store, I might just have realized their existence simply because of mel Gibson's "Passion". At any rate, I thought it was hilarious and potentially sacreligious. I was wrong about the sac part :D

Sorry for laughing, but this thread is accidentally one of the funniest out there. Indignation turns to indigestion in the space of about 4 posts.....
