Alien Quadrilogy

While I patiently wait for the Special Ed Blade Runner box I'm keeping myself busy with the Alien Quadrilogy box set, NINE discs, 2 versions of each movie, absolutely wonderful, I was blown away when I got home and opened up the box, it's really beautifully packaged and yes well well worth it at $100... highly recommended! http://www.dvdfile.com/software/review/dvd-video_7/alienquadrilogy.html

Bought it myself, excellent. Have you seen the packaging for the Japanese release ? It's in a replica of the Alien's head, not sure that Mrs garymac would approve of it on the shelf though

wow the japanese version sounds awesome! I've only made my way through two of the discs so far, strangely I chose to watch the original Alien 3 first which I really enjoyed (having seen the other theatrical releases several times before already) I thought David Fincher did an excellent job of directing it and I find it strange that he reportedly disowned this masterpiece even before production was completed. The storyline, concept, cast and script were all excellent, loved the gothic medieval world in absence of advanced technology. Alien 2 directors cut was great, some pretty vital scenes were deleted from the original like scenes of the colonists encountering the ship and alien, the sentry guns etc. over 150 hours I'm going to slowly make my way through, sheer joy!

alien 3 is underrated. it's so dark and unrelentingly void of hope (which, in its context, is a good thing), unlike the action-packed kill-fest that is aliens.

alien resurrection's a let-down, on the other hand. winona ryder acts like piece of plywood.

Alien 3 so called 'director's cut' is even better than the original, David Fincher wasn't even involved in the 'expanded' version. BUT the storyline flows much better having restored 30 min of deleted scenes, for instance a cow 'gives birth' to the alien and not a dog, they actually capture the alien only to have a deranged inmate release it. The characters are shown in more depth and even displays heroism, courage and self sacrifice amongst bunch of super violent psychos and murderers. As mentioned it's a highly highly highly underrated movie... I'll be watching it again this weekend...
