I suppose i should make some kind of effort to go and see them. Wont exactly be upset if i dont, depends whose on at that time.
That's a shame, even if I've never been a massive Orbital fan, I always thought their sound was a bit unique considering the period they had to deal with, in which electronic music suddenly exploded to the face of the world and where every geek could make a techno record in his room at night.
Their sound is more "raw" -- more "metallic" than others, and they also have that ambiant feel to it that makes it special.
I always wished they could have remixed New Order, by the way, and still think they could make very interesting producers for them.
Who knows! It looks like they'll be free now!

They should milk that last performance and release a live CD / 5.1 DVD.

You should make an effort, just cos it'll be their last ever gig and you can say "I was there!".
Surely they'd be headlining given the enormity of this gig now?!

(Recall Orbital's near-legendary set at Glastonbury in 1994: the crowd that night was the most terrifyingly gurning buch of pilled-up munters I have ever been a part of...)
A shame, one of the only purveyors of said genre that I can listen to for more than 5 minutes.
I was at Orbital in 94 and from what I remember, they were sh1te. Just before Snivilisation, I think, and they played most of that album with few oldies being aired.
Not sure about gurners in the audience but Welsh Darren (or Mad Darren, as he's better known to folks from here) was serving at one of the bars that year so we'd get, like, ten pints from him and still get thirty quid change out of a fiver. Top fella.

Saying Orbital are shit if you`ve never heard them live is like saying internet porn is better then real sex. Orbital are as george michael says Amazing. If it wasnt for them we probably would never of had Goldfrapp or heard Sasha play David Gray (and it sound brilliant). Orbital will be the highlight of Glastonbury-if they play same time as one of the headliners,they could be making the headlines themselves the next day. Orbital going quietly? Like fuck they will.
saw them a few times back in the early '90s in new york with meat beat manifesto, ultramarine, and moby, respectively. i still listen to them quite a bit, as well. they're fantastic. shame.

Dunno if that's aimed at me Steve cos I'm the only one who mentions the sh1te word anywhere here. Didn't say they were sh1te though, I just said I thought they were sh1te at Glasto 94 cos of their choice of set.
Cracking band on their day and I've got tickets for the Brixton gig. Sounds like they're going to go out with a bang at Glastonbury too if it's a greatest hit set. Still hope they're playing that Belinda Carlisle sample in Halcyon!
