I always thought Primal Scream was a very good band, but i didnt have the full picture untill i finally saw them play live in Athens last Saturday. Well, all i can say is that i listened to some of their songs again yesterday, and they all seemed so much better, after what i had just seen on stage. Definetely one of the top live bands (and bands in general). Bobby Gilespie is indeed a genious, im not surpised anymore that he was a good pal of the guys, even "rock the shack" doenst sound that bad to me now ;). As for the rest of the band, it was top too, Mani in particular seemed happy, almost like being "home" (although i havent seen the late Stone Roses to make a descent comparison).

I havnae had the pleasure of catching them live. 1 because they haven't ever supported New Order 2 Because they never play at any of the festivals New Order do.
I like quite a bit of their stuff, and maybe one of these days I'll pull me finger out ma bahooky and catch em live. I think ma wee Cuz Steve has seen them a few times, he's got most of their stuff (I should know cos I'm always "borrowing" his CD's):D
Only seen 'em twice, and what a contrast they were. Once supporting the Order, most forgettable, and once at Uni when we bottled them offstage after Ivy Ivy Ivy. Next track on the setlist was something that was called Loaded. The rest, as they say, was history. If the stuff they do on record can be recreated live then they must be worth catching.

To be honest, only two times I can remember seeing them.
saw them support the order at wembley.
they were pretty horrible and they fitted quite well into a horrendous night at the arena

Yeah, that was exacktly what i was doubting before the gig. And thats the basic reason why i was thrilled when watching it :) . They managed to sound good as on records, without using too much sound effects from tape (in fact u could barely hear them) and they ve been changing/mixin their tracks constantly, playing some of them for more than 7 or 8 mins, without letting think u might get bored. The live version of "movin on up" - which isnt at all one of my fav tracks of theirs - was something really really worth seeing and listening...
must admit to being really disappointed when saw them at the colston hall a couple of years back
kevin sheilds had joined them by then, which was nice, but i think the keyboard payer was missing with a broken arm or something
higher than the sun was good, but for the most part one song was indiscernable from another.
shame as some of the albums are pretty good - but talk about bandwagon jumpers! if tehre's a band that has jumped on more I'd love to know who.

The show was fantastic! I never thought I'd be dancing from start to finish at a primal scream gig but I did... and I don't usually dance
