Best show on (U.S.) TV?

This is a bit exclusionary, as it's mainly just the American TV I wants to discuss, but I'm sure it'll devolve into another Cure-pissing-on thread :D

Anyway, what in your humble opinion is the best show on TV right now? It can be an old standard that's hung around this long, or a newbie with some still-inventive life left in it.

I nominate Arrested Development, which is hands down the best new sitcom on TV, and because of that will probably be gone by fall. :(

But that's the best show currently on TV, in my humble and non-influenced-by-huge-pile-of-money-left-on-doorstep-by-Arrested-Development-producers. What's yours?

Some of the other shows I would've put in that spot if not for AD:

The Simpsons Crossfire ...that's about it

As US TV goes, I quite enjoyed Firefly, but they axed it. I'm also enjoying the spectacle of your president getting deeper into shit every day (along with our PM, natch).

Law and Order reruns

Well, I don't watch TV anymore since we have no cable in my apartment, but here's the few shows that I miss:

The Simpsons (my roommate and I have been watching the same 4 hr. long tape of episodes everyday for months, and we're getting quite sick of them all) Seinfeld South Park Space Ghost Sealab 2021 Harvey Birdman Family Guy

AD is a riot. Scrubs is very funny, too. Dave chappelle Show another one of my faves.

Law and Order always fills my need for a serious drama.

You are missing the best South Park season ever; they better get an Emmy. So many memorable episodes: steroids in the Special Olympics, Mel Gibson/Cartman becomes Hitler, Michael Jackson, the goobacks, You Got Served, and making fun of jap anime

New Simpsons are always on when I am online gaming with my squad. thgis pisses me off but I enjoy the time I spend with my friends.

Speaking of Friends, When will JA show us her titties??

The only two shows I know the dates and times for are for the Dave Chappelle show, and The Simpsons; all of the above mentioned fine shows I've caught part but didn't really pay attention to the date or time. I became quite wary with network tv, and their attempts to kill shows, with the demise of Northern Exposure, which annoyed the hell out of me at the time, though when Joel left, it was clear that that was the time to pull the plug on that one.

Also, don't wanna sound like a shill for Comedy Central, but I really like the Jiminy Glick show, as well as Insomniac with Dave Attell.

I used to love Law & Order...but it's run it's course...time to pull the plug...

saw a couple of episodes of the Simpsons tonight...they were quite funny...I know one was a repeat...not sure about the pie man episode...is that a re-run as well???

can't say that there is a single show that I have to see...I'd much rather spend my time here!!!

Our president must be made of teflon. I mean the past few months he's gotten into maybe a 30 foot deep pile of shit, but he seems to come out relatively unscathed. Almost all the voters I think have made their decision who they want as president, and it could be a close 50-50 election like last time.

I like the food shows on the public channels. I miss Yan Can Cook :(

My favourite U.S shows:

'The Simpsons' 'Scrubs' 'Malcolm In The Middle' 'Frasier' 'Everybody Loves Raymond' 'Tales Of The City'

'Friends' stopped being a great sitcom at around Series 4. The latest series has been the worst yet, like some terrible, unbelievable soap-opera, Joey Tribiani has literally been the only mildly-funny aspect to the whole show for years now. I look forward to seeing what his spin-off is like.

The first series of 'Six Feet Under' was excellent, but the second was so shit I didn`t even bother watching the 3rd. If they had just introduced one measly little character that was likeable, it would have been an improvement :barf:

So do I, and of course, if Yan can, so can you! On the local OPB channel here, there's a story going round about how the show Barbeque America was being considered for pickup by the Food Channel, and the result, after some consideration, is that the Food Channel declined, and decided to make their own show based more than slightly on the principles of the Oregon show. Nice one there. And of course, the grandstanding of Bobby Flay on the originial Iron Chef was such an embarrassment, I can't stand to watch him.

Yan can cook was shown over here about 8-10 years ago. It was the best Chinese cookery show ever. Way better than Ken Hom's shows.

Has the 2nd series of Paradise Hotel started yet? Have to confess to late night viewings of the 1st series, which has recently concluded here.

Why is it that aside from fan lists I can never seem to find anyone else who watches this?

The only time I turn my TV on is to watch 24. All of that reality crap rots your brain....

When in the US , I love the local news channels, especialy in NY, do criminals and arsonists take a film crew with them ? They are always quick on the scene, I like the NY weather stations in Winter, I thought they were being a bit overdramatic about snowfall, till there was a whiteout at JFK .... Manchester snow dont last long enough to make a snowman, so proper snow was a shock.

The amount of adverts you have drives me to distraction though, bad news when you're jetlagged its a bit like the Holiday Inn shopping tips channel with a film clip or two thrown in. However some of the best TV is coming out of America, has been for years. current faves and past raves include. OZ 24 MURDER ONE SOPRANOS CSI TWIN PEAKS KING OF THE HILL WAIT TILL YOUR FATHER GETS HOME MORK AND MINDY SERIES ONE AND .... A weird Oliver stone thing , the name of which possibly, may have been Wild Palms, anyway it's about a senator who tries to hook the world on a topnotch narcotic, whilst believin he's a God, the drug makes holograms turn solid and real ..... and someone digs a fellas eye out with her finger, he may not have been real....the plot may be a dream....weird though. Unless I've imagined it, early nineties

When myself and Brasco were over last year, the funniest thing we seen was this programme where 5 poofs had to transform a rough looking straight guy for his bird:lol: Class.

Loved the first 24 as well. Watched the first series of Soprano's which was great, when the second series started I was mostly in a pub, so I haven't seen anymore of them:nonono: Have always watched Friends and Frasier though, and you could never go wrong with The A Team and Dukes Of Hazard:D

Ahh...Queer Eye For the Straight Guy???

I read that you lot in Eng-er-land are getting a version this year...

and one of the best shows that was never seen by most of you was another crime drama, a la Law&Order...this one was set in Baltimore...Homicide, Life on the Streets or something like that...just remembered this one...as a matter of fact...one of the characters on one of the Law & Order spinoffs is from said show...

this is Jeff...I'm bored...I can't sleep...and I have to get up in an hour and a half!!!

I like watching TV at 6AM when USA plays episodes of Living Single, and TBS runs episodes of Mama's Family. Watching reruns of Martin, Seinfeld, the Critic, and Duck man are also good. The only new show I watch is 24.

Ah yes, Living Single...."Friends" for Black People :nonono: :evil4:

Just kidding, one of the few (very few) benefits of getting up early is the odd Mama's Family, Parent'Hood, or Steve Harvey episode, usually with a very special message cushioned between thirty minutes of hilarity. Gosh, they just don't make sitcoms like they used to....which is a good thing
