As their website is not responding, I need info on Colchester Arts Centre and Colchester in general.
Is it a Taxi ride from the nearest train station ? Are there any Holiday inn express or Travelodge type places about ? Any decent boozers near the arts centre ? Any pubs full of interestin local characters ? Any pub best avoided to avert Colchester Barracks scenario ? Any decent clubnights on Tuesday 11 or pub amenable to AT's ? Best place for full English ?

Alright mate: I went to Colchester Arts Centre a few years back to catch Labradford/Robin Guthrie/Dave Pajo/Pole/Sigur Ros at the pompously-titled "Festival of Drifting".
In answer to your questions: the Arts Centre is easy to find, and is about a 10-15 minute walk from the rail station - just head up the main street towards the town centre and you'll soon get there (on your right, just off said main road). There are plenty of boozers just a few mins from the Arts Centre itself (a converted church if I recall correctly): can't recall names, but mostly your big chains which are mostly dull-but-cheap (the bar in the Arts Centre is pricey, so get hammered beforehand!). I don't remember feeling unsafe at any point, but obviously it's Essex so be careful. Enjoy your show!!

Thanks Martin, good to know the price situation before hand, some venues take the piss. As for the unsafe, I thought it may be a barracks town and me and our kid are astrologicaly pre-destined to piss off squaddies, never on purpose either, lager fate I guess.

Went to Uni in Colchester. Who you seeing at the Arts Centre - it's tiny!
Mind, I left there in 89 and have only been back twice since for football, one a cracking 5-0 away win last Easter! 
Having said that, nothing had changed. It's a sleepy little town and bar one boozer on the High Street becoming a Firkin pub everything looked the same.
There's a lad on here who goes to Uni there now, but I cannae remember his name and he doesn't post regularly.
From memory, there's a train station right by the Arts Centre, but it's only a local line - if you're coming in via InterCity then that's on the outskirts of town. The Arst Centre is slap in the middle though. About a mile and a half walk.
As for interesting characters, late clubs, etc, see earlier line - it's a sleepy little town!
Pubs to avoid - Bull near the cinema, and the big one facing the top end of the High Street, can't rememer the name but it featured heavily in that 'Garrison Town' doc on Colchester recently. Even then, we still went in 'em though!
Oh, and as for squaddies out on the sauce, they're all typically 16-18 years old, and then they marry 'em off.

Be a bit of a memory laner, me and our kid followed B.A.D for a good few years, so whilst I've gained a bit of weight and Jonesy has lost hair, the idea of a night of tunes from an old rocker in the company of me now married Brother is hard to resist !

To be honest, she looks a lot better in the flesh than she does here. Saw 'em in Notting Hill two weeks back and if you get there before 8pm it's free, but I'm wandering along the road when I see the Client girls walking the other direction. When I asked said blonde (both were in their 'uniforms' with big heels and camouflage jackets!) where the venue was, she pointed back past me, and when I asked if I could still get in free (it was bang on 8pm) she said "Well, I'm doing the door and there's no way I can beat you there in these heels!"
Quality piece of eye candy.

Am quite tempted by the Colchester gig, if I do make it GM, I'll tell you the tale.
In brief, myself and 2 other lads [you may know one from your Mcr network] went to Germany for a week to watch Ladytron's short tour. Client were the support. We got on well with the Ladytron lads and went out with them after each gig. Client came out for a session after the Munich show and not to put to fine a point on it, Client B [blonde] got royally smashed.....I'll fill in the details if make Colchester ;)
Think she actually looks better now than when she was in Dubstar - never went for all that false eyelashes nonsense.....
