sports illustrated picks cubs to win it all, prior is still hurt, maddux is not the maddux of prime atlanta years, hee chop soi is tearing it up in florida, sosa's hr total is average, cubs fans panic that we are 15-12, 2 games out, w. sox are in 1st place and moises alou, cubs left outfielder pisses on his hands before games. god i love baseball.

SI curses every team that graces its pages, so it is only fitting they pick the Cubs. I think the Astros will win that division because they have a better lineup, bullpen and starting rotation than the Cubbies, but if Prior comes back strong who knows what can happen. I'll be rooting for Monsieur Gagne and my Dodgers.
Cubbies looking good!!
Will be watching the Iowa Cubs produce replacements for Chicago this year.

I expect the Dodgers to win 2 out of three. All three games should be close since they are in LA. Gagne will get two saves. ![]()
cubs 2 out of 3.... whats your wager? email me, lets work this out :) kerry wood game 1, clement game 2, zambrano game 3, that will be tough for your beloved dodgers.
The Cubbies just cannot win because I threw a spell at them duries last season's championship series on this very board -- something like "1913 forever you twats!".
I'm sure that thread can be found somewhere...
:)
We beat 2 out of the 3 best Marlins pitchers not too long ago (we rocked the D train and beat Beckett), so Wood, Clement and Zambrano should not be tough. I'm looking up the mathchups and the Cubs should win game 1 because we will be sending Jeff Weaver to the mound, and the only way we would win is if he gives up 2 runs through 5 innings and we let Dreifort, Mota and Gagne pick up the slack. Ishii will beat Clement (he's 5-1 so far and has been getting monster run support). I'm betting Alvarez will pitch against Zamboni, and with Mota he pitched a one hitter at Pitt. The Dodgers have a bullpen, and you can't say that about your team :p. The only time our pen really f-d up was today when we gave up a 5 run lead, but that's mostly because Mota was used the night before, and Shuey is still injured. I'm just suprised how well we are doing when guys like Bradley and Encarnacion are slumping badly, our starting pitching can be atrocious, and our third best bullpen guy is out. The Dodgers have been finding ways to win and will continue to do so. Monsieur Gagne needs a World Series ring; I bet Spot would agree with me.
Another thing. Moises Alou pisses on his hands to prevent calluses, so I can't pick a team with that guy to win a series. ![]()
we wont be using our bullpen too much this series. and our 3 for the dodgers series are all hot. kerry lost 2 in a row, but the last game he gave up 2 runs in 7 innings and we got shut out, the game before, awesome through 8 and then imploded on those balls that were obviously strikes. clement is god as of late and zabrano just threw a two hit shutout.
kerry wood 3-2 2.53 era mat clement 5-1 2.29 era carlos zambrano 3-1 2.18 era
and you probally could pitch better than borowski and farnsworth :(
i predict gagne will blow a save finally. game 2 ![]()
he could shit on his hands, i dont care. as long as he continues to play well. .308 8hr's 22 rbi's
Gagne won't blow a save until he has to face Barry Bonds in the bottom of the ninth bases loaded with a one run lead. Until then, he won't blow a save. The other day he got credit for a save when pitching for 1/3 of an inning with a 5 run lead.
why? thats clearly not a save situation. are they just handing them to him now cause he's probally going to end up the greatest closer of all time. i want the cubs to win, but i have respect for gagne.

Well it was a save situation because it was bases loaded with the tying run on deck, but that was the most insane save situation I've seen.
ok, i think it is save situation if the tie run is on deck. or was it tie run at plate. btw, borowski is perfect in save situations as well this year :)
before you go check todays stats and see he gave up the go-ahead run in the 9th (tie game, not a save situation at the time). he'll inprove his era and cut down on his walks but he hasnt seriously fucked up yet. id rather have gagne but borowski will do.
Shawn Green is finally hitting homers, so watch out! You know what happens when he gets streaky. He'll get 2 homers this series.
I bet in the next few days I will be hearing a lot about the Cubs from guys like Jay Mariotti and Michael Wilbon who are both on early afternoon ESPN shows.
I know, but he and Woody Paige jabbing at each other on Around The Horn is hilarious. I hate Jay because he hates the Lakers, and I bet tomorrow he will credit the Laker win not to the improved play of LA, but to home court and the refs. At least you guys in Chicago have a sports journalist with an IQ higher than the banana peel I just threw away; I would take Jay to write in the LA Times anyday over Bill Plaschke.
This has nothing to do with baseball, but if anyone followed the NFL draft, then here's something funny http://www.extremeskins.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=banghaha&file=index
