Certain records have lodged themselves into my memory,so when i think about the time i think of that record or when i hear same record i think of the time or place. Example:

New Order-Substance (late night studying for school exams) Sasha-AirDrawnDagger (7am trying to sleep in 120 degree heat in Cyprus) Massive Attack-Blue Lines (stuck in JFK airport for 24hrs cos of snow)

Is this normal?

Sure it is! That happens to me sometimes. For example, I always associate Technique with being in Mexico on holiday.

I've got loads of instances where the music reminds me of a certain event/period. Perfectly normal

Down Under by Men At Work. Junior School Disco's. Telephone Line by ELO always reminds me of the first house I stayed in with me ma and pa. Walk On The Wildside reminds me of Venice cos it was the first song I heard on the bus after touching doon. Lets Go (Nothing For Me)and Vietnam brings back memories of meeting my missus for the first time, and also the same day me and DoN had our infamous TVR's baby!!! Sweetest Thing by U2 was played just after we beat the FOD 5-1 at Parkhead in 98, that always brings a smile to me face:D

Rather obvious, I know, but "The Stone Roses" will always be the long, hot summer of 1989; Eno/Budd's "The Pearl" is the long cold winter of 2000-2001 in Norwich; the Cocteau's "Treasure" is the summer of 1990; whereas The Sundays' "Reading, Writing and Artithmetic" is the first few months of 1991.

Because I've always listened to New Order they don't have quite the same close associations, but I played "PC&L" endlessly during 1988 while the opening of "Regret" these days is a field in Berkshire with me grinning like a loon!!!

Oh, and "Paradise City" by Guns 'n' Roses is, for various reasons, indelibly associated with a 3-2 home defeat to Leeds in '88-'89...

'save the best for last' by vanessa williams--my high school graduation. i'm quite sentimental about that song because i really liked high school.

'blister in the sun' by violent femmes--summer camp when i was 12. we listened to that song, and the whole album, over and over again.

bob marley - "legend" is always junior high and the first girl i really had a crush on. she took drum lessons at the same school of music that i did. we played in some kiddy orchestras together. it made me more nervous to be around her than it did to be on stage... i wonder where she is now. fuck, i need to find my copy of that album...

I remmeber for my 21st I went to 5th Ave night club in Manchester. I had never been to an indie club before. I made a joke saying I would be amazed if they played Blue Monday and Love Will Tear Us Apart.

They actually played, Tempatation, Transmission, Blue Monday and Love Will Tear Us Apart! I had no idea just how popular the band are with modern students.

Top pick has to be hearing NO's Everything's Gone Green at sunrise on a Bay Area radio station after an overnight 13 hour drive the day of my first NO gig. Totally reenergized me, and made the lack of sleep worthwhile.

Butthole Surfers song called Cherub, a Pink Floyd type guitar rave. First song of the night at a Halloween gig years ago, and the dressed up crowd went totally nuts, even the guy dressed in white like Jesus who was dragging a cross around (seriously, this happened).

Memphis, Egypt by The Mekons, watching MTV at my mom's and seeing her amusement by a group who weren't trendy or pretty like most of the other videos back then. Love Tom Greenhalgh's deliberately bad dancing.
