After 20 years ceaseless devotion to the eradication of pot pourri, it is not without some regret that I report an end to the campaign, nay in fact a total rethink on the subject. I say to all those good men in the fields, 'you're efforts have not been entirely wasted, the war against sandalwood (that only ever emits any discernable scent once accidentally scattered all over you flooring or upholstery) was a justified war, dried oranges and those funny hollow logs deserve their ultimate fate of obsolescence.'

The time has come to admit defeat. My olfactory senses have born witness to a not entirely unpleasant odour, emanating from a form of pot pourri, which has managed to scent a room with a fragrance that has lasted for a whole week, without the need to disturb the source. The enemy has defeated us but we can remain gracious and dignified in defeat and hope that we have played our part in some greater good.
