I sat down and wrote a lovingly hand-crafted, finely tooled essay about the new Morrissey album for you all to read, but then when I previewed it it disappeared. So, bollocks to all that. Suffice to say, it's much betterr than the last two, but it's not Strangways (what did you expect?).

7/10 I'd say. Anyone else got it yet? Currently most impressed by "All the Lazy Dykes" after two plays.

A pity Morrissey didn't become deleted after 20 minutes of inactivity really !

I'll check today at a music store here if there are limited edition copies w/ a DVD, but I'm betting it's not a UK exclusive since Tower has the CD+DVD listed online for $14.99.

I got it yesterday as well, the CD + DVD. The DVD is a waste of plastic, a very dull video (Moz never quite knew what to do with the medium), album lyrics (that are in the booklet anyway), and pictures of him looking "dashing" :confused2: VERY sloppy effort by the record label here. We could've had that C4 documentary about him that was aired last year, or some live footage, or even a simple interview. But I believe the "Limited Edition" DVD was just a gimmick by Sanctuary to pull in extra sales, there are CD singles out there with more meat on them than this disc! :nonono:

The album sounds ok so far, Moz was never going to push any musical boundaries but his lyrics are always second to none. So far I'm enjoying "I Have Forgiven Jesus" for it's beautifully executed chorus, and "First Of The Gang To Die" because it's simply an amazing song (next single I hope) I'm very much listening to the first half of the CD at the moment, the later tracks will get more of a listen as the weeks go on.

It's good to see him back anyway, I felt genuinely excited picking up the new single in Virgin, first new material in seven years! :thumb: There's also a hidden gem on CD2 of Irish Blood, English Heart in the form of "The Never Played Symphonies". I'm wondering why that excellent piano/strings based track was left off the album personally!

All in all I'm giving it 7 out of 10 at the moment but it does take me the better part of a month to come to a final opinion on albums like these, I try not to rush because there are almost always song(s) that are "growers".

Having said that, on initial listens I don't think it beats Viva Hate, Vauxhall, or Your Arsenal at all. But to be fair to Mozzer, those would be hard albums for anyone to beat, including our beloved New Order

I would try and see Moz live, but quite frankly his fans scare me :evil4: He has armies of bequiffed spotty teenagers, carrying half a flower shop in the jeans whilst professing they would throw themselves under a bus for our hero. I'm more of a conservative, "cheerer from the sidelines with a pint" kind of fan who simply loves the music and his intelligent and often funny lyrics ;) Getting crushed on the front barriers by a bunch of Oscar Wilde lookalikes doesn't hold much appeal for me LOL :D

Cheers,

Ally.

What?.....This is the first I've heard of this! :eek3:

So that means the next time I post a Hasselhoffian thread which generates no response, it's history? :nonono:

Censorship! :stupid:

all i have to say is the best lyrics that i have heard so far from this album are:

America, it brought you the Hamburger/ Well America, You know Where you can Shove the Hamburger and dont you wonder why in Estonia they say "hey you you big fat pig"/"you fat pig" "you fat PIG"-?

FROM THE SONG "America is not the World"

he should have named the Album "you are the Hamburger"

the song ends with "Ilove you - Ilove you"

classic!

I think your Hasselhoff posts will be quite alright. ;)

It just means that if you take more than 20 minutes to compose a post, it won't post. The solution that works for me, after running into the same annoying problem, is to copy my post just before I submit. That way, if I've hit the 20 minute inactivity limit, I just open a new post, and paste in the post that I copied. Works like a charm.
