joy division

i just finished listening to bauhaus' "gotham" cd...from their 1999 tour...wondering...

is it possible that bernard could give up the mic...fans give up opinions...and someone with at least the feeling (if not the spirit) could for one more brief moment in time help allow us to see joy division...live...

i say this because listening to the bauhaus cd reminded me of seeing them on that tour...it was...to be quite honest...something i had thought of time and time and time again as an occurance that would never be an option...but lo and behold...they got it together and didnt just tour and rehash it all...it was just as blinding a truth as music of that intensity can be...and had been for many years before that...only never live...

joy division and bauhaus are probably two of the most important influences stemming from post-punk europe and abroad...

while it is certainly understandable that it may have been easier for bauhaus to tour with their original singer...as oposed to the reality that exists with joy division/new order...

i have heard new order playing joy division songs...and eloquent as they are now in a very nostalgic way...im wondering if it has to stop there...

why not tour as joy division?...it only makes sense to embrace the past...always moving...forward...(my deepest fantasy is to talk the guys into a joy division record composed of different re-realisations by each of different jd tracks (just in case steves heard something drum n bass-like in transmission)...

anyway...i appreciate all feedback...good and bad...

thanks for the welcome...ive actually been here quite some time...aware of the site at least...im just very noncommital about stuff like this...however...its just something that over time has come to mean a lot to me...

joy division was the first real music after the pistols that ever made so much sense and sounded unlike anything i had ever heard...still does...

they should be in the rock and roll hall of fame...

along with kraftwerk...einsturzende neubauten...bauhaus...and throbbing gristle...

i guess fad gadget would be a stretch eh?...

and btw...im uncle to no person...

totally lone wolf cept for my mate...my dog...and my music...all of which keep me going...

i will be around here a bit more as well...so i guess ill have some new friends...and probably a couple of people who may wanna kick my butt for being american (much less from texas)...

You'll be hard pressed to find many people around here who would support an all-JD tour. I personally think it wouldn't be that bad. Most of the old men who frequent this site are upset that New Order play any JD songs at all live.

I don't think it would be right for someone else to sing the JD songs. Moby did an ok job with new dawn Fades and Trent Reznor was good with Dead Souls. But I'd only like to see Michael Gira do it if it had to be done.

I guess that's one way for New Order to get back in the American spotlight...reality TV to audition a new singer! Oh, I would vomit--but only after watching faithfully.

Wish I'd seen Bauhaus when they toured around.

But The Clash without Joe Strummer? Yeah right! Who are they gonna have as lead singer? A chimp? Are Mick and Paul gonna pick up his parts?

Other disreputable reunions, minus the lead singer: The Doors with that whats-his-face singer from that stupid band, and Dead Kennedys with some new singer.

I think it would be interesting for New Order to play a one-off show of Joy Division songs (including Ceremony and IALP, of bloody course!).

Not me. But, tour as JD? This is just ridiculous...and pointless. NO doing selected JD songs is fine, but how can they 'become' JD without Ian?

how could they play as joy division without ian?...the same way they had when ian was alive...wasnt it alan hempsall from crispy ambulance as well as simon topping from a certain ratio that stood in for ian at derby hall, bury tuesday 8 april 80???...if either of these two (the former being known for his ic impersonations) are still alive it could be done...

sometimes you cant just "think outside of the box"...you have to think as if there is no box there to begin with...

I didn't mean that they should tour AS Joy Division--just that they could play a one-off show (fully recorded, of course) of solely JD songs played by New Order.

Maybe if they did it in a low key venue and record it....
