well, my first hurricane last weekend was an interesting experience. my roommate and i watched a huge oak tree snap like a twig and collapse into her sister's driveway, taking the power lines with it. fortunately we only lost power for one day--a friend is staying with us because she hasn't had power since last friday. orlando looks like, well, like a hurricane went through it. at least i didn't have to work all week, as several schools had their roofs blown off! FEMA is saying it's going to take six months to clean up all the debris from the storm...i believe it.

i disappeared for a few weeks, as it was pre-planning for school and then the first week of school. busy, busy. so no, i'm not rotting under a trailer somewhere! ;)

Are you near any morphed palm trees? I remember seeing the pictures of the aftermath of Andrew, and i was amazed by the twisting of the palms at the beach.

Anyone heard from Molly ? He's a bit further down towards the keys, may have copped it pretty bad as well.

Maybe David Sultan's house blew away and now people will find rare New Order memorabilia in trees and washing up on beaches for years to come....

For Sultan's house to be blown away, the hurricane would have to hit the south (it would have to be another Andrews).

i had a feeling when i started this thread that many would think it was about the prodigy!;)

as for the path of the hurricane, it was supposed to travel over tampa and gainesville (about 100 miles north of orlando), then into the atlantic. at least that's what the meteorologists said. consequently, everyone from the tampa bay area evacuated to orlando on friday and every single hotel room in orlando was filled on friday night (and believe me, orlando has a lot of hotel rooms!). wouldn't you know it, the meteorologists were dead wrong. charley turned inland earlier than expected, travelled over punta gorda (where they were totally unprepared) and then the eye came directly over orlando; it only drizzled in tampa. nothing in miami, as it's too far south.

bob dylan got it right: you DON'T need a weatherman to tell which way the wind blows!

Having lived in near-total seclusion for the past month in the isolated little village of New York City, I have hardly been able to keep up with the outside world, but I do believe that the remnants of Charley blew over NYC the one night I chose to go exploring in Manhattan...Got totally drenched.

Just glad to know your alright, being stuck in a hurricane doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun to me.
