I was just thinking the other day about how many great bands have come from Australia. So name off some good ones, people.
I'll start with my own favorite,
Dead Can Dance

I love The Triffids just about as much as New Order, and I've been a long time fan of The Church as well.
Haven't really paid attention that much over the last decade or so, but I also gotta mention:
Hunters And Collectors
The Scientists (they did have a compilation CD on Sub Pop)
Hoodoo Gurus
Birthday Party/Nick Cave/Rowland Howard/Mick Harvey
Beasts Of Bourbon
Never cared too much for the singer for Died Pretty though.
Not drwoning Waving, Divynals, Hunters & Collectors, Split Enz & Crowded House (they may be Kiwis, but we claim them).
Here's one I don't listen to personally, but you can't deny that they've helped make the world safe for big dumb rock: AC/DC. ![]()

The only member of AC/DC that was australian was Bon Scott and their first bass player, the rest of them are from the U.K.
I rather like everything I've heard from Ikon. Looking forward to hearing some more on Friday night.

and i live in Melbourne, their home town, but i've never seen them, while you, who lives on the other side of the world, can pop down and see them when ever you want. ![]()

I know Rowland S Howard, he released his first solo album "Teenage Snuff Film" a couple of years ago, great version of Billy Idol's "white wedding" on it and did the soundtrack to "He Died With A Felafel In His Hand" (the book is better). Met up with him two months ago, said he was going to Sydney to do a four track E.P. which would be great, except he's "tied to the tracks", don't know if he will ever stop, but he is the sweetest guy you could meet, but i never want to get involved in his world. This is his WEBSITE.

The INXS WEBSITE. They are crap without Michael. I recommend their early material.
And Men At Work WEBSITE. i did by their first album. I can't believe INXS is going to do that reality TV show to find a new singer. How stupid is that? I guess the money ran out for them a LONG time ago to stoop that low! ![]()
...CROWDED HOUSE and SPLIT ENZ - ooops, they're downer than down under; it's time for Godzone !!!...
Split Enz & Crowded House (they may be Kiwis, but we claim them).
...noooooooo way, Ron !!!...
;)
The Saviour.

They sold about 25 million albums, i think they are doing it because they have no idea what to do without Michael.
I don't give a monkeys about Antipodean music, but I wanted to post here because His Holiness, The Pope started & contributed later to this thread, & I just wanted to let him know that he is a fucking cunt.

Fucken SPIDERBAIT been around for fifteen years, did an awesome version of LeadBelly's "Black Betty" ,hit number 1 here, their first, fuck it, just check them out, fantastic band.

THE TRIFFIDS ,so sad that David McComb died, but their music will live forever.
When I was a young fella , thought The Saints were fookin excelent , they were from Oz were they not ?
Certainly were, from Brisbane actually (just like The Bee Gees before them, and the Go-Betweens after them)THE SAINTS ruled my world in their day, "(i'm) Stranded" being my personal favourite.

Well I did used to like INXS & Frente, but I bet they're both too mainsteam for you elitist gobshites. :D
The Church, Spy vs Spy, The Easybeats, The Master's Apprentices, Zoot, Skyhooks, Sherbert, Billy Thorpe and the Aztects, u m i (not sure of spelling), HOODOOGURUS, Hunters & Collectors, JOJOSEP & the Falcons, Dragon,

Remember how Spy vs Spy were sued by Mad magazine so they changed their name to Spy vs Spy vs? Hoodoo Gurus is spelt correct, their only decent album was their first from 1984 "Stoneage Romeos", it's so sad that they changed "What's My Scene" to "That's My Team" for the fucken NRL. It's JoJo Zep by the way and Dragon were a Kiwi band. It seems every Kiwi band that has success here is automatically adopted as "Australian", Pacifier (formerly Shihad, but changed it because it rhymes with Jihad) being the latest.
I ment the band "U am I", still not sure of the spelling.
Dragon were briefly known as Hunter when they tried to make it in the USA.
More Aussie bands: Aussie Crawl, Cold Chisel, MiSex, Supid, sorry Psydo Echo, Grinspoon, Spiderbait, Silverchair, Noise Works, Ninteen Twenty Seven, Icehouse.

You mean You Am I Ron. I prefer their early stuff, but that all ended when they decided to call their fourth album "You Am I's Fourth Album" and Tim Rogers solo stuff is crap, just like Jimmy Barnes from Cold Chisel and Mark Seymour from Hunters And Collectors. Mi-Sex is Kiwi, and what the hell are you doing mentioning Australian Crawl, Noiseworks and 1927? ![]()

I agree about Teenage Snuff Film, one of the best albums of the '90s in my opinion, it's a shame he doesn't release more stuff. So did Rowland say that he DIDN'T go to Sydney to record 'cos he was "tied to the tracks", or you just thought he wouldn't make it? Just curious 'cos I've been waiting for a follow up to TSF for years and was hoping he'd get around to it soon. Website is pretty ace as well, I wonder if Rowland is into it at all... I've been checking it out for awhile and their news section says there should be a double 7 inch upcoming so that's good news.
No, he said he was going to Sydney, but by the look of him i didn't think he was going anywhere, but this is two months ago we are talking about, and he could have cleaned himself up by now, which he has done dozens of times in the past, although the last time i saw him about a month ago he looked like crap, but he still said he was going to Sydney, haven't seen him since, so i guess he is there.

Nah, their just dead and buried now.
Nikki Sudden added this to his journal yesterday - might explain his appearance, hope all is well:
First things first… I finally spoke with Rowland Howard yesterday… And found out that he can’t do the Italian tour. Rowland has a slight health problem and to visit the hospital twice a week for the next few months. He said he’d love to come over to Europe next year, but it’s just not possible at the moment. We also said that we’d like to work together again. Rowland has written the material for his second solo album, the follow up to his brilliant Teenage Snuff Movie – the best thing he’s ever done!
The Models were quite good as well. Wawanee is agreed on being crap now. Killing Heidi, Modo Rock, Powderfinger, And for some more NO like sound, there's Cut Copy.
and some more: The Angles, Rose Tattoo, Powderfinger, Spiderbait, Gangajang, Redgim,, Screaming Jets, Goanna.

That's great news (i must point out here that i am not a close personal friend of Rowland, we just bump into each other from time to time) and TSF is the best thing he has ever done. You know what was so great about the album? i couldn't buy it here, i had to get it imported from the U.K. thru Mute Records, so much for supporting Aussie music. ![]()

or Paul Kelly & the Dots or Paul Kelly & the coloured Girls or just plain Paul Kelly. I still think he has the worst voice ever, but the man has written some wonderful songs over the last 20+ years.

Yeah, there alright, i have "Neon Ballroom", which is good, but the best thing that the singer, Daniel Johns is doing at the moment is with a band called The Dissociatives, great stuff.
Hey kids! Speaking of Aussie music,
DEAD CAN DANCE IS REFORMING!
New album and tour planned for next year, according to the website of Her Holiness, Lisa Gerrard (in addition to a number of new film scores by her). If they come to this continent, or at least my portion of it, I'll be there with chimes on. ![]()
