Another added to the long list of ex-Liverpool players to have managed or been on the coaching staff at Newcastle. Can't see the Geordie faithful being too impressed with this appointment. Think there may be a clash of egos with Shearer.
Clash of egos?? More like fisticuffs at dawn - this is "Raging Bull" Souness we're talking about.
They'll be alright so long as he grows his 'tache again!!!

Souness is a poor choice of manager for Newcastle. He's not achieved a damn thing in the English game besides an FA Cup at Liverpool about 12 years ago, & he only got the Anfield job cos a) he was an ex-Pool player & b) he'd won a few titles at Rangers, who aren't in the most challenging league in the world.
I'll be very surprised if Souness lasts even a year at Newcastle. Still, he'll earn a few brownie points in my book if he manages to piss off that dickhead Alan Shearer along the way... 
I was a bit taken a back when Souness' name was announced, I've got to say. His wasn't really a name i'd even considered!! I just think it's probably a case of no other options to be honest. I can't say i'm thrilled but we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
I don't think that there will be any problem between him and Shearer (it was only a few weeks ago Souness was rumoured to be trying to make a move to take him to Blackburn!!).
There are rumours that he's already clashed with Kluivert though.

I don't think Owen expects to be a "hero" in Madrid, I guess he went because he just wants to play his football at a higher level for a better club than Liverpool. It's called ambition, lad.
Besides, Arsey Alan could have been a hero at Old Trafford or Highbury, he is English after all, & the best striker from this country since Gary Lineker. There was nothing to stop him winning plenty of trophies at Man Utd or Arsenal (which would have made him heroic in the fans eyes, I'm sure), then moving up to Newcastle when he was 30/31 & becoming a Toon legend much like Kevin Keegan did late on in his playing career.

I think you're absolutely spot on about what Shearer could have achieved had he moved elsewhere when he left Blackburn. The fact that he didn't though has just made him all the more important up here (that's why you would be hard pushed to find a tynesider willing to slag off big Al!!). Whilst I don't dispute what Shearer could have won had he moved to a different club, I dread to think where we would have been without his goals.
