Hopefully we can get a good result to set us up for the rest of the games, but it's safe to say it's gonna be a bit tougher since we knocked them out of Europe last season.

Celtic were bloody rubbish, especially in the first half. I don't even know why any self-respecting fan would bother paying the admission price to see their team pissed all over by world-class opposition.
Until the bureaucrats get their fingers out & put Celtic in the Premiership (or even the Championship first, to see if they can hack English football...) then there's no point you Hoopy Jocks getting the least bit excited the prospects of Celtic in Europe. The prospects being, of course, jack shit.

I wouldn't worry too much b(h)oys, we played Barca first game in the CL a couple of years ago and still got to the semi's. Tho from the highlights it seems as if you got battered
I've got the replay from the Celtic website going right now...and the Bhoys did look less than stellar in the first half...if not for Marshall and Bobo, this could have easily been 3-nil to Barcelona at the half...
Gutted this morning, and slightly hungover!
We were beaten by the better team, but for 25 minutes of the second half I really thought we were gonna do it! Sutton's goal was magic, but we really should have took advantage right after it as we had sustained pressure for the next 15 minutes, unfortunately we just couldnae add a second. Typical that Larsson cam back to haunt us, didnae know how I'd feel if he scored, but lets just say I wasnae happy. Juninho was ok in the first half, but when he was replaced at half time - it allowed Stan to move forward a bit more, still not sure why we replaced Hartson with Big Joos, we should really have gone for another goal, I only hope it was because Hartson was knackered and not a tactical swap. Life goes on, there's still plenty of hope, Marshall kept us in the game with a couple of great saves and that penalty save was brilliant. Dunno what happened to our defending in the first half, there wasnae any!!! Brother Jeff - did they not show the game at the Texas CSC, or is that too far away? I taped the game, then watched the first half hour of the second half again, nothing like putting yerself through it again! It could have been worse poor ole Grahame Ferguson was in Barcelona watching the game, in an Irish Bar, and the Tims were outnumbered 3-1!
Have nae fears though, we will beat Milan 4-0 at the San Siro;)

Apologies, maybe I should have been clearer: Celtic have no prospects in the Champions League. Fair play to `em, they did brilliant in the UEFA Cup (they reached the final actually, call yerself a fan?!), but everybody knows that the UEFA Cup is only a glorified runner-up prize, & the Champions League is the competition worth being in.
I've nothing against Celtic, I just think their fans shouldn't be so optimistic after only considering the fact they walk the Scottish Pointless League, one of Europe's worst leagues for competitive football, every season. If I were you, Jeff, Shug & the rest, I'd write to every Hoops fan I know, organize some sort of massive petition shoved down the throats of all the English & Scottish soccer bigwigs, & then get down on my hands & knees & pray that Celtic will be moved to the English league for the start of next season. Playing top-quality opposition every week is the only way Celtic can have any hope of being successful in Europe again. Sure, Celtic would probaby only finish mid-table in their first Premiership season, but to look at it long-term, it would be the best thing that could ever happen to them...
We've had this debate on here plenty of times before Mr Barnes. I am resisting yer girlie "mid table" dig. Plenty of proper Engerlish fans will tell you we'd finish a bit better than mid table. As for the Premiership - no matter what anyone says (like today in the papers our main shareholder Dermot Desmond) we won't be playing in the English League.....EVER. I do agree with yer bit about playing quality every week though, we simply aren't tested up the road and we do pay for this in European competition, the fact that Scottish clubs get feck all revenue for TV rights is another issue. We'd be guaranteed an extra £25m if we played down in England, plus you have the fact that TOP class players would rather play in England, Spain or Italy.
Such is life, but don't give me this shite about having no hope, Celtic fans always have hope - and we're not out of it yet.
Hey Shug! Mid-table in their first ever Premiership season after spending decades in a totally unchallenging league wouldn't be too bad, I'm sure Celtic would improve the following year! Plus they'd be a good bet to win the FA or League Cup...
The "Move Rangers & Celtic To England" debate is an old & much-talked-about one, I know, & it's a shame that it'll probably never happen, because Celtic will never surpass recent achievements whilst competing in the SPL, & even a fan such as yourself Shug, with eternal optimism will one day realise that.
Do you remember talk of that "Atlantic League" a few years back where Rangers & Celtic were supposed to be going into a division with some top-quality European teams from the Low-Countries region, Holland, Belgium etc... Shame that never came to fruition aswell.
Much respect to Henrik Larsson though, a player of his age getting a move to one of the world's biggest clubs & actually doing well there despite the fact he's jockeying for a position in a team chock-a-block with world-class players. I would have liked to have seen Larsson in the Premiership, he was an astonishing goal machine for the Hoops, but Britain's loss is Barca's gain.
