Okay, admit it...how many of you out there are eagerly awaiting next Tuesday? The release of the true Star Wars trilogy is upon us...:jump:

I swore I wasn't gonna get all excited and start hoarding cash in expectation of the release. I was not going to help Lucas continue to acquire funds for "Jar Jar Binks: The Spinoff" or whatever horrible things he has planned for Episode Three...but I'm weak, so very weak! :faint:

I know I'm not the only Star Wars geek on this board, so register your membership to the Skywalker Club here (nerds) :evil4:

Your DVDs will one day be obsolete just like your videos are now. George Lucas must be pissing his gadders every time he gets a bank statement.

I probably will get the set although I'm a bit pissed off that it's only the "new" versions of the films that are available. They're fine for the most part with improved special effects, extended scenes etc. But...

Han Solo shot Greedo cos he just fucking decided to. It wasn't in response to a (ridiculous looking) shot fired by Greedo first. I also don't know why Lucas dubbed over one of Harrison Ford's lines in Return Of The Jedi (Sarlaac Pit scene). Does changing "It's alright, trust me" to "It's alright, I can see a lot better now" really improve the film that much? :confused2:

JSB, you're right, Lucas probably is pissing himself. When whatever takes over from DVD becomes the norm, he'll most likely say that he has no intention of releasing the 1st 3 films on that format, just as he did regarding DVD. All the while having teams of technicians and accountants beavering away...

The only cool Star Wars things are the Pez dispensers.

Sorry, I'm not a Star Wars fan myself, but I do like the more current movies quite a bit. It may sound blasphemous that I like Episodes 1 and 2, but not the older ones, but what the hay that's just my opinion.

Not blasphemy taken sir...I actually like the newer ones too but to speak of the originals that way may be considered fightin' words in some circles...so just be careful with that talk. Others may not take it too kindly.

Ok I'll take heed so I do not get assaulted by plastic light sabres.

The problem was that the orignal three were duplicated too many times because of demand. The original prints or whatever the fuck they are called were in poor shape some having up to 100 pieces of "dirt" per frame. That and lucas is a money grubbing whore.

actually, the print for the new dvd has been restored and the cgi from the '97 version has been updated. you can check out sample frames comparing the 1997 special edition and the new dvd version here. massive differences...and yeah, lucas is a grubbing whore.

George Lucas is a politically correct cunt. So is Spielberg. And Tom Fuckin' Hanks.

Burn all those suckers.

I've always said Lucas's puffy 'do is slightly gay...:evil4:

And he is a money-grubbing whore whose legacy is the summer blockbuster extraveganza...but the original three were fantastic flicks :thumb:

I, down wit it. I will purchase said dvd set. The first 3 are the best. And my kids will be happy that I did it.

Probably buy it. Looking forward to the Clive Barker trilogy about to be unleashed though.

I'm sure I'll be picking it up...I've wanted these 3 on DVD ever since I got a DVD player...and I'm actually surprised it's coming out this way...I figured that they would wait until all 3 of the prequels had been put out on DVD, then stick it to us by releasing the 3 oldest in a DVD box set, packaged with the newest 3..., thus forcing us to purchase 3 movies we already had on DVD to get the other 3 on DVD...

Sure, provided you already bought the ass-tastic prequels. The older ones would be worth getting, but I already have them all on DIVX from laserdisc transfers...not the best quality, but neither are the movies. High camp at best. Totally agree about Lucas being a whore. Even THX-1138 sucks. At least he wrote Indiana Jones.

Gotta admit I don't care that much about SW anymore, I practically fell asleep  during the one that had Jar Jar in it, and didn't even bother with the last one.

Yeah looking forward to the original trilogy DVD release alright, although I will be shopping around for the best price (I think Amazon UK has it at £27) I'm not made of cash being a final-year poor student :( The original three films were magnificent sci-fi at it's best (ROTJ was a tad patchy) and inspired lots of cool PC game spinoffs like TIE Fighter, X-Wing Alliance, and the Jedi Knight series that remind me of my childhood and I still play today. You can't argue with the strength of the original cast either, even if poor Mark Hammil has done nothing of interest since then. I was slightly miffed to hear the DVD versions of the films will be the ones Lucas POINTLESSLY touched up, in '97 was it? What a twat, the guy is simply obsessed with blue screens and he was obviously showing his vanity and boredom with those useless additions. In interviews wasn't he literally like "I thought bar scene #2 could do with another octopus type alien in the background" Argh, I can see why he pissed off alot of fans with that (including me). His motto as shown with the "new" trilogy is "Why use a sophisticated line of dialogue or develop characters whenever an army of unmemorable special effects or a Disney-like relationship between them will do".

As I'm sure many here agree, the new films are laughable, and that is really sad but I prefer to think of them as never having existed, they don't touch the original three in any respect. The Phantom Menace was a kids film, and a really REALLY weak script, the second one (forgotten the name) had a similarly bad script and only a slightly better storyline, christ knows what the third one holds. I'm not going to bother seeing it at the cinema, I'll wait until one seriously boring evening arrives then I might rent it from Blockbuster.

Looking forward to this original trilogy DVD release tho, it does look like they've done their homework in terms of detail and extras. Seeing the Super Star Destroyer smash into the Death Star in crystal quality on a big screen with surround sound will be dead cool

Ally.

I just hope they include the deleted scenes this time...I'm looking forward to that Chewbacca-Ewok harem thing that didn't make the final cut!!!

I think I'll wait one more year for the probable release of a limited edition DVD boxset containing the 6 episodes. I'm sure it's going to happen.
