I can't decide. Plus, all I have is Ramonesmania (which is a top-notch collection, but a collection nonetheless). I would say one of the flag-bearing tracks from the 76-79 era, but I have a weakness for "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg" (great political song). I'll porbably vote next time I get a chance to...

Bloody hell, I just can't decide on this lot for sure, I know I've always loved hearing Sedated on the radio, but I do love to sing along with I Wanna Be Well (from Rocket To Russia). Maybe a couple of will help decide.

Blitzkrieg Bop, by a whisker from Sheena Is A Punk Rocker and Here Today Gone Tomorrow (neither of which are on the poll above!). My abiding memory of the Ramones is their classic live album, It's Alive, where they do 28 songs in 50 minutes, using just three chords and, I guess, a huge dose of amphetamines.

Yeah, Sheena & Here Today are both great...not enough room on the poll to list everything.

Not a cover, that one was written by Richie Ramone. Other choices for me include No Go, from Too Tough To Die, or Everytime I Eat Vegetables It Makes Me Think Of You, from Subterranean Jungle.

This thread deserves a bump back up to the top. One of the truly great bands and just sad that only one of them's still alive. No reunion tour then.

For some reason, I've never really gotten into the Ramones that much (I only have Ramonesmania.) They always seemed too bubblegum poppy to me...like a punk version of the Beach Boys. They come off as being more cute and dumb than a lot of the punk bands that followed them (the ones I enjoy). Yawn.

Cute and dumb? Surely you haven't started work on your autobiography already? I suggest you get hold of one of the Ramones live shows doing the rounds on Ez-Torrent at the moment, then you will be able to judge whether they were bubblegum pop or not. I'll give you a clue. The answer is no.

Although in the liner notes for the reissue of their first album, Joey is quoted as saying they thought they were a bubblegum band. Came up with "Hey, Ho, Let's Go" as a response to the Bay City Rollers.

"In the late 1970s, the Ramones began releasing punk records. Though many disagree, the band members actually referred to themselves as a "nouveau bubblegum band with teeth." Their songs were all simple, three-chord riffs with catchy choruses that occasionally made little sense (such as "Gabba Gabba Hey") and appeared on their album covers in cartoon form. The name itself comes from Paul McCartney's alias during the heights of the Beatles popularity, which he used to check into hotels anonymously. Like the Osmonds or the Partridge Family, the band members all used the same last name, "Ramone" -- Joey Ramone took his name from Joey Levine, the performer of "Yummy Yummy Yummy". In spite of the similarities to many bubblegum acts, many critics do not classify the Ramones as a true bubblegum band for several reasons.
