How the fuck do these work?
Little Cousin Stubbsy sorted me out Bit Torrents for this compooter, I have no problem downloading.....but how the fuck do I play them?
He suggested Windows Media, but when I tried that - it didn't work.
HELP!
Oh, and will I be able to transfer the music to CD's (I only have Nero)

What format are the files that you downloaded?
I'm guessing .FLAC or .SHN?
If so, you need to decode them to .WAV format before you can play/burn them.
There are lots of free applications out there that will do it. I use MKW to decode .SHN and FLAC Frontend for .FLAC. Both are a piece of piss to use, drop the files into the window and press "convert" and you're done.

Winamp should play them too. At least my copy does.
While we are on the subject, looking at "Sharing the groove" shows lots of NO bootlegs whose bittorent trackers are down(I guess they were posted a while ago).
If anyone fancies ressurrecting a few of them I'm sure plenty of people would be very grateful :)

How come none of these shows download for me? (404 Errors and such)..
Well, you need to make sure you have a bittorent client installed, like ABC for instance, to handle the .TORRENT file.
Also, as Mike says, if your trying links off Sharing The Groove, most of them are dead. The site only came back up recently after a couple of months down.
You could always have a look at easytree.org, there are a few JD/NO shows listed there at the moment.

I am currently downloading the Leigh Festival from 79, even though I have most of the JD/NO stuff I want - I thought I'd try these files to see what they sound like.
One question though, how come the files are SO big? Some concerts are 600mb? This computer has hardly any memory as it is, plus if you download a concert from somewhere such as soulseek or bootleg.nl the concerts are half the size in mb.

The whole idea of bittorrent and the way that it works is that it allows much larger files to be shared.
The audio you're downloading is compressed into a LOSSLESS format. Stuff off Soulseek or WinMX is all mp3 which is a LOSSY format. mp3 files are much smaller and quick to download, but the lossless formats, whilst much bigger in size, should sound better. Or so the audiophiles would have you believe. Personally, my ears can't tell the difference between a .FLAC and a high bit-rate first generation mp3, but what do I know...
Just played that download of the Leigh Festival, and the sound is no better than the copy I already have on CD.
So basically I have just wasted a few hours. I hope there is other stuff worth getting. Plus the files are nearly 10 times the size of an MP3, so once I've downloaded a couple of gigs I have to burn them then delete them, and for someone as lazy as me, that's gonna be a right pain in the bahooky.

Checked that site of yours out Nicos, very good. I want to download a couple of Monty Python movies and put them to CDV using Nero. The only problem is, the files are avi.....and I can't play avi files on this computer + Nero doesn't recognise avi files.....is there a way around this?

Shugzv...if i send the two NOOL's who i mentioned my copies of DVD can i have YOURS to copy whenever GAV actually gets this new PC/DVD writer working.I had asked DIGITAL MIKE a question on here but got no reply so i don't want to bother him again.I know he is a busy guy and your NOT!

Course I will send you my DVD's to copy - tell Gav to take his headphones off for 5 minutes and get the DVD writer sorted out. And it's you're not your ya daft baldy twat:D

For buring FLAC files to cd I use my www.burnatonce.com burner. Its free and automatically converts Flac to wav. Shn files require conversion software. I usually avoid downloading Shn files. I can play Flac audio files with Foobar2000, free software.
Just use winamp to listen to the files. It's already a better player than most, plus it plays flac
VLC will play your AVI files, no matter how buggered the Windows codecs are. Uses its own decoders.

For some reason I fear spyware from WinAmp. Perhaps this is because I played all my Napster stuff with WinAmp and now I cannot play thse files.

To convert to CDV, I invite you to find a time machine and return to 1987...
to convert to VCD, I guess VirtualDub might be the best bet.

Well, what did you expect? you are downloading a CD image uncompressed (mp3 compresses the sound 10 times, so what you are downloading is 10 times bigger)
But usually, if the source sucks, so will the output, despite of its size.
If you can't hear the difference, then you have pretty good ears... I can't see the difference between any mp3 above 192 kbps and the original file.
