In all seriousness, the top three are:

  1. The Beatles
  2. The Who
  3. JD/NO (I count them as the same when compiling asinine lists such as this to suit the avarice desires of an uneducated few who demand that I lower my appreciation of music to a simple "listing" of favorite bands, never accounting for the fact that quite honestly I feel this demeans the very nature of being a "music fan". After all, did internet users of the 1820s go around listing their favorite composers? Probably not, but then again a recent Google search led me to a list, dated 1822, which was written as follows...

"Johann Von Windenhammerjamsinjamjimbin-bom of Ulster's favorite Three Compoferf, Dated the Twenty-Fife of October 1822:

  1. Bach
  2. Brahms 3.Beethoven

With a fpecial mention for the talented Mr. Mozart, who unfortunately I waf unable to fee perform live" (the 'f-for-s' was unique to the writer, who had a lisp)

And so I feel the very nature of these lists demean the very nature of...oops, already said that. My bad)

I don't understand why so many people bash on The Cure and Depeche Mode. IS it just an English thing?

Yeah, pretty much. You get used to it, though, and learn to hide the fact that you love DM so much you once let martin Gore have a reach-around at a men's toilet in Waukeegan........if you did such a thing, I mean. Not that you...or I for that matter, not that I would admit to such a thing...great game this weekend, Lions at Cowboys, huh? :nervous:

Basically, all the English guys think DM and the Cure blow, while we smart Americans know that such bickering only serves to distract from the menace of Tears for Fears' recent reunion :evil4:

Seems rather appropriate for this time of year.

Actually, in terms of American rock music of the '90s, Smashing Pumpkins is one of the better bands. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden produced good singles, but their albums were boring. SP's albums, especially the first two, were better than their singles. But, considering that in the early and mid-'90s British bands got little air play, I wasn't exposed to New Order (or the Cure, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, the Smiths)for a while.

jesse, soundgarden albums were'nt boring imo. and they fucking rocked live. i dont think you mentioned alice in chains. they rocked as well. i think for me that was basically the best (nirvana, pearl jam, soundgarden, alice in chains, smashing pumkins) and the better part of the rest of the decade was a bunch of shit bands trying to be one of the above mentioned bands.

ps---and nine inch nails even though trent got his start with the wax trax! crew late 80's.

Mike, after our glasto discussion, is it now definite that System 7 are better than New Order?

Wonder if you'll be saying that down the front next year?

Never carred for Sound Garden or Alice in Drag. Both however had good first singles. I especially liked Man in a box. But I have a miseravle memory of a 100 F day on a bicycle tour about the 100th mile sitting at a stop sign waiting on traffic because the cop stopped us. We were carign all of our shit that tour, 80 lb of crap including a stero that balsting out Black Hole Sun by one of the aforemention bands. Everytime I hear that sun I think about how miserable I felt at that moment. Just wanted to cross the fucking street and find my campsite. We were so fucking close.
