What I don't understand is why nobody assassinated Bush. You've killed or tried to kill almost every other gaffer! 
Kerry seems to be strengthening at the last minute according to the weekend polls (however the polls of the last few days are usually pretty inaccurate). Let's just say I wouldn't bet money on either candidate on winning. On the news the past couple days I've heard that some fucked up scenarios could happen like Bush becoming president with Edwards as VP, or Edwards being VP and serving as prez. If Edwards becomes VP, I wouldn't be suprised if someone shoots the head off Bush right away. Anyways I'll be glued to the television tomorrow night hoping Bush edges out.

Looking at polls this year, the undecided are 49/49/2 (Bush, Kerry, Nader)
That would be very interesting...If the national polls mattered. The electoral college still prevails, so you need to look at the polls in each individual state, not the national polls.

Hmm slate.com (a bastion of liberal fuckheads) have the two candidates tied. Frankly I would want a tie just for the fucking hell of it. Neither candidate will make much of a difference, since the Repub.s will likely be upping their power in both the House and Senate. Remember with a tie, we will probably have Bush as prez and Cheney as VP, Bush as prez and Edwards as VP, or my favorite, Edwards as serving prez and VP.

I'm annoyed that a Daschle crony would make such a decision in order to prevent Republican observers to make sure voter fraud is avoided (which was the rumor two years ago when Thune lost in a race for the other SD Senate seat). I find it hard to believe one can be intimidated by the simple fact someone takes down your license plate number; it may be annoying, but it is hardly voter intimidation.

It's believed to help Kerry more since it is thought that young voters and minorities (who both lean to the left) are the ones who comprise this big increase in voters.

The East coast polls are closing, but no actual results yet. The exit polls indicate that Bush is ahead in a handful of 3 southern states, and Kerry is ahead in Vermont. Just what we would expect.

Bush has won, but there is still a miniscule chance Kerry could win Ohio. Right now Bush has around a 140K lead, but there are 147 provisional ballots (they are given to somebody who wants to vote that the poll workers don't find on the registration list or they think the person is committing fraud) out plus military absentee ballots (the military usually goes 3-1 for Bush). The fact is that usually most provisional ballots are not going to count and that military ballots will only help Bush. I suspect Kerry will concede soon, and Bush will win with a 3 and a half million vote lead. He will be the first president since his father to have more than 50% of the American vote. Also both chambers of Congress have become more Republican. This was a catastophic defeat for the Democrats and the US will be controlled by a conservative executive, legislative and judicial (the Supreme Court has a conservative majority). This will not change for another two years.

The economy is usually not something a president can change, if anything Bush's tax cuts helped the American economy not to slump as much as it could have. The economy will be fine when oil prices decrease and stabilize (which it seems to be doing now). According to exit polls, the number one factor in their decision was morality. Karl Rove did a brilliant job in rousing the evangelical Christians to vote, and the gay marriage (which I disagree with president Bush about) votes in ten states helped Bush in getting the conservative base to the polls.

I hope Ted Kennedy remembers the gift Nixon gave to JFK in 1960 (close election, voter fraud induced by JFK mob cronies in Illinois gave JFK the win of the state and the country). Quite clearly, the economy is something the president can change. While i admit that there will be ups and downs with most economies, the economic policy of any leader will inevitably affect any economy.
There are examples of this highlihted throughout history, is suppose the best example is thatchers economic policy in the 80's, and the switch from keynes economic theory to monetarism, which fooked/perfected, the UK economy depending on who you speak to.
IMHO, i think it is an extremly sad indictment on any society that people will vote in their drives on so called moral issues. Have people lost control of their minds? What is more important, if Uncle Paul and Auntie Jack from down the street want to get married, who really cares, and what business is it of anyone elses? Compare the importance of this with the state of the economy, with millions more unemployed than four years ago, the current international political climate, with hostility breeding partly due to america current ultra Hawkish government,(amongst other reasons) the environmental situation, the crisis in welfare...
What i found absolutely amazing was some person on the TV said that Dubya was going to jeep the country safe? Sure, he was keeping the country safe in summer 2001 preventing terrorist attacks. The next four years are going to be a disaster for the planet, one can only wonder what policies bus will enact with a bigger mandate in his eyes.
For an American president to have great control over the economy, he/she would have to go after business and force industries to do things one way or another, and that does not happen here. The tries to step up to Microsoft, it threatens to move to Vancouver, Microsoft steps down. The government can affect the amounts of money people have in their pockets to spend with their power over taxes, but it's hard, nearly impossible, for a president to change the market system.

It bothers me so much because I live in the country whom you share with the longest border in the world. Actually, I live an hour from the borders of the states of Vermont and New York, and about 4-5 hours from Maine.
It bothers me because everything your country does usually has a direct impact on my country: on our economy, on our environment, on our culture. You wouldn't believe how many people in english Canada are watching american television. In many aspects, they are no different from those who live just south, like in Michigan, Minnesota or Wisconsin. Even us, in Quebec, aren't that different from those living in Vermont and up-state New York.
Canada is actually the only country in the world where its people are living exactly the same way the american people does. We have the same commodities, share the same products, etc.
When Bush decides to rip off something like the Kyoto Accord, it has effect on my life, because all the american industries will also pollute *MY* air and *MY* water.
When Bush decides to attack Irak and make atrocious economic decisions, it's *MY* gas that I pay 96 cents per litre.
When Bush decides to make unilateral war in foreign countries, I'm afraid we will eventually pay the price too because our historical allegiance to the United States turns my country into a target.
So this is why, among many other reasons, I am as much concerned as any american citizen.
One last thing: you may have note noticed from my angry messages above, but I LOVE the United States in general and I love its people and its history. As a matter of fact, should have I not become a lawyer, I would have completed my Master in Political Science and the United States would have become my specialty. And it just rips me apart to see what is becoming of a country I used to think great things of.

Don't know how Kerry would lead economics, religion, or whatever. But be sure that's is much more problable you'll have problems with terrorism with Bush still on power then if anyone else was there. Now the terrorism will be lead against America AND Bush.
(Though I think the problem has ALWAYS been Bush - did you have terrorism problems during Clinton's governament?)

The Afghan invasion started with Carter who was in office until January 1981, so helping the Afghans I don't think was an entire Republican idea.

The CIA supporting the mujahideen is a tough subject to debate. The US helped foster an upsurge of radical Muslims, but the war is considered to be the turning point of the Cold War. Now what the CIA did during Republican administrations may be questionable, but they did serve a greater purpose. What Clinton (who severely cut our intel resources and created the wall between the CIA and FBI) was able to accomplish against Bin Laden in eight years was a joke. Al Qaeda attempted to destroy the WTC in 1993, our embassies were attacked, our ships, and al Qaeda even had slight ties to Terry Nichols who helped in the Oklahoma City Bombing.
The greater purpose being? The Soviet Union was on it's own road to implosion, perhaps it would have taken a little longer but the outcome was forseeable. The outcome with Bin Laden was not however. You reap what you sow.

Expediting a situation in which nuclear war could have started IMO was more important than sowing the seeds of terrorism which could have been stopped with a more competent administration 1993-2001.
I distinctly remember living under the nuclear threat in the eighties and it was at it's height in the early part of the decade. The inter agency problems between the FBI and CIA did not start with the Clinton era, I seriously doubt anyone could have stopped the terrorist threat that escalated in this time. You now have an infinately more likely nuclear threat and no enemy to pinpoint other than by name.

The nuclear threat was at its height in the early sixties thanks to JFK. The early seventies saw a decline of the threat with SALT I thanks to Nixon. Yes Carter's administration did help with SALT II. Reagan did bring nuclear worries back into the minds of everyone with the talks of SDI, but was there an actual increase in the threats? The FBI/CIA faults that seem to have allowed 9/11 to happen sprung up during Clinton.
Oh well, the better campaign won, and we'll see in the near future how Bush will fare. Off to the shower after seeing the twins.
The WTC attack was planned under Clinton's watch. Clinton had a chance to bust him in Sudan but did not take the offer.

I honestly don't think there are WMD's in Iraq, but I wouldn't be suprised if we found some that were smuggled to Syria. WMD's or not, I believe it was a just war.

From memory I do recall that Clinton did brief Bush on the Al Queda threat. I think its in Clinton' autobiography. Although nobody could have forseen what happened.

That's quite low, I think only municipal elections get that in Canada... the 1995 referendum on the independance of Quebec had a 92% participation!

And a 52-54% turnout is very good actually! Not everyone can vote on election day. This figure does NOT take into account the MILLIONS of absentee ballots from here and overseas either. Shit, you've got about 1,000,000 just coming from US Forces stationed abroad!! (70% voted Bush!)
AND...it is out right to exercise should we choose NOT to vote. Which is great if that's your bag, and to many it is and I don't give them any shit about it as it is their choice. And some people just plain CAN'T get out there and vote. But the voters turned out in record numbers and they spoke.
